Steve Demiter is leaving to be an Asst. Superintendent for Catawba County Schools.
Jeff Link is leaving to be Athletic Director for Watauga HS and Watauga County Schools.

Who will be next? No other personnel director in the surrounding counties - even CMS - can compete with Mr. Demiter's recruiting energy and credibility. Many of the teachers who came to BCPS did so not because of our mediocre supplement, our state benefits, or our location. They came because they were impressed with his honesty, integrity, and love for the schools. Ask any teacher who came here from out-of-state or out-of-county. Just ask them.
He sold them by guaranteeing the support of the community and the school board. But that was before the board' quality went south six months ago.
So who will be next? Mr. Demiter and Mr. Link are just the beginning. The people who will replace those that leave will not be the best we can get. For the most part, given the integrity of The Personnel Committee, we will have to settle for the left-overs.
Steve Demiter is gentleman and scholar!!! He has served Burke County well as both a teacher and his current position. I doubt anyone in the county office has done as much for teachers. It will be difficult to replace him with someone who is as fair and nonjudgmental. He has been an advocate for teachers and a consummate professional. I can think of but one person that I would trust as much, that would be David McGee. I hope that whoever replaces Demiter has as much compassion and clear vision of the issues that we deal with at our schools. I am happy for him. He deserves the best and Catawba County is coming out on top. Demeter’s leaving will be a dreadful loses for anyone who wants a fair school transfer in Burke County.
I agree. BCPS is on its way to being so-so. With Buff as acting superintendent and Norman as his associate and Dobson as the moral police, Hairfield as Enron personified, Barnard as the constuction know-nothing, we will soon be asking ourselves, "What happened?" "How did we get into this fix?" "How can we become a leading school system again?"
It will take years and an angry electorate. Until then, good teachers and principals are looking to go elsewhere.
But how long will some as capable as David McGee stay? Buff's Personnel Commitee will not stop the blood-letting. That group is the CAUSE!
I hate to see our students hurt by a cadre of illiterate egomaniacs who have let winning an election go to their heads. They care nothing for the students. Jeff and Steve and those who follow will be missed, and no one can blame them for leaving.
I thought steve was leaving and jeff link to better themselves. Are they leaving because they are afraid? Why would steve he has survived everything anyone could in his position.Does he know something is going to hit the fan in the future? I have not been pleased with our chairman and vice-chairman because they promised to do great things in bcps.So far nothing but cuddling up to administration.Steve will be missed but their is always a repacement good enough to fill someone's shoes.Randall needs to hit the road maybe 30 people would miss him and I doubt that.

Yes, Buff and Norman are good at threatening and evven making good on those threats, but even THEY aren't stupid enough to recommend a dismissal without the documentation to back it up.
No, Jeff and Steve are not afraid. The unspoken messages of the new majority are clear, "you are not going to be renewed when your contract expires, so you had better get another job in another county." Jeff asked board members for their support before he took the job in Watauga. At least four board members would not even answer him.
We all know who is on Buff and Company's hit-list, and those people will not wait around to be renewed because they know the Vindictive Five won't even consider it.
Betty Terrell is another applicant wanting the associate's job. Here lately she is very tight with Tim and Tracy. She was given the high school curriculum position temporarily. Don't know if she got any extra money to go with it.
Here' another exodus. Tracy has left the Barrier Loop and moved to (203) Brittain Drive in Carbon City. If she's in the Western District, she's just BARELY in that district.
So there is no truth to the rumor that she moved to Britain. Wishful thinking on someone's part, I guess.

To 3:13 blogger....when you went to Freedom did you have a grammar class?? "Don't" has an apostrophe t and "I'm" has an apostrophe m.(FYI...Apostrophe is used to show the omission of letters). Also "I" and "Freedom" should be capitalized (that means making the first letter or single letter BIG :)... I am just thankful that you are not "working on" a degree in English to become a teacher :) Although, you would fit right in with the Fab 5!!! Hope this little grammar lesson is helpful to your educational career!

You don't need money to use correct grammar; you just need a good education and the self-respect to refrain from using words such as the one you chose to use (for ex. "rich b------").
