Go get 'em Deb! According to this blog, your replacement makes about three times what you were making.

But I hear from the folks in Catawba that your relacement and the new Technology Director have been friends for a while - even went to school together.

Hairfield forgot to mention his renewed tolerance of the good-old- boy policy. It's OK to hire your pals if you're Hairfield.

I also hear that Caldwell got the better end of the trade.

Maybe, but thank goodness Scott is gone!

I also find it interesting that in a time when budgets are going to be slashed (possibly 50% from such items as textbooks, library books, instructional supplies, etc.)the board has changed the NCWISE coordinator job to a certified position where the person is also the Technology Assistant Director. That's a big salary difference that could have been spent to support the classroom. Also, I've heard that two more people were hired to help the replacement for Joel Hastings. Does that mean we now have 3 people doing the job that Joel did? How much money would that have saved us? When you put that with the money that is spent on the Ass. Superintendent that Burleson said he would do without in order to save jobs, you're looking at a good chunk of the reported cutbacks that need to be made. I know the rationale for Sherrill's position was that his salary was paid by state funding, but the fact is that if his position wasn't being paid for with that money, a position that was cut due to attrition or retirement would have been funded. This board is not trimming the top as they said they would. Many teachers feel that the school system is going to end up so top-heavy that we are going to topple.

Yes, you are correct that there are 3 people doing the job Joel did and they are not doing it even half as well. Joel was always in the schools, he knew the students, he knew the teachers, and he knew what teachers needed. Most EC teachers would be hard pressed to recognize Joel's replacement or any of her assistants.

they need to cut Robert Bonner,Charles Cook,Bill Woody,Bill Caraway and that needs to be the first round of cuts.Buddy needs to tell the superintendent to do this, but he will not.He wants people to gripe about the new positions that were created.I agree, and am tired of this, but Mr.Armour is intrenched with three of the four names I mentioned above and would not consider such an action.Lets see how Mr.Armour votes when, and if positions have to be slashed. Will he do what is right for the county, and students,or play it to hang on to his friends. We are watching the new board,as well as its minority. The majority better get their crap together, the minority needs to change course.

That seems to be the modus operandi now, hire someone to fill a top position who has no idea what they are doing and then hire someone to 'assist' them to do what was originally a one person job. And what happened to promoting within county. I think it's a slap in the face of current hard working administrators in Burke that all the top positions hired of late have been out of county people.

What do you mean Mr. Armour is entrenched with three out of four of those you mentioned?

How do you know these people are not needed? Two of them work for your new Asst. Superintendent. Shouldn't HE say whether Bonner and Cook are needed? Do you think Cox wants to do their job? Hell, in Catawba, he was their Robert Bonner. Why would he go back to doing that? If he is as smart as you profess, don't you think he knows what positions he needs? Sounds to me like you don't have much confidence in yours and Sherrill's recent picks.

You definitely have an obsession with those positions. If I didn't know any better, I'd say you WANT one of those jobs. You must still think you're coming back to Freedom.

Hey, Jerk. It's not a board member's place to tell a superintendent how to organize and staff his school system. That is what they hire HIM to do. Neither is it their place to say, "Hire him" or "Fire her." The recommendation must first come from the superintendent - not the other way around. Then they vote the recommendation up or down. I know your daddy rabbits THINK that's their job (to be the superintendent), but you'll have to show us the statute stating that it is their job - or as Tracy says, "the statue".

Well, Deb, it looks like you nailed someone's hide to the tree. If your letter was anywhere close to exaggerated or untrue, Hairfield and his peons would have blasted you with dozens of blog entries. Good job. Now, if only some of the others who are well-versed in the truth would speak up...

3:38, I strongly believe and know that there is more to the story. Hint. Hint.

I for one would like to know what Bill Woody does now that he is back. Why is he among others who contribute nothing to the system always protected. His salary is reported to be in excess of $40,000.

Bill Woody was a relative of Margaret (can't recall the last name right now), who was the testing coordinator prior to David McGee. She created a job for him. For you Scott Smith bashers, he refused to have Woody as part of the technology team - said it was a waste of money...it was very ugly for a while - Scott and his crew even moved out of West Concord to Burke Alt. There were other space issues, but this was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Bill Woody takes pictures and creeps people out.
Bonner tells folks to watch where they walk and turn off lights (he's also been known to unplug fridges and ruin science budgets)
I don't know about Cook and Caraway, but I do know the CNP folks should not be getting bonuses for profit from the program. Waste limitation and efficiency are expected in the program, not optional.

There is plenty of room for tightening of the belt in this system, without compromise to the students.

Ah yes, Bill Woody was at one time the Y2K guru! Of course it meant nothing that he knew just that, nothing. He was completely and totally clueless as to what if anything needed to be done to protect our computers from impending doom. Good thing for us there wasn't any real doom after all.

CNP PEOPLE, PAY BACK YOUR BONUSES!!

Anonymous said...

I agree with 5:49. CNP - pay back your bonues. This is disgraceful. Bonuses paid out with lunch money from students and parents. How shameful. Caraway is also a waste of money. He and Ron Fisher - driver's ed teachers?!?!? Caraway should have retired years ago and Fisher needs to just work for the high salary he is paid. One good employee could do the driver's ed job.

But that's the whole point, hire two people to do the job of one, and pay them more than double the initial salary. For those that follow the current flow you know that to be SOP.
