Scott tell us, we know you know.

Anonymous said...

Shouldn't we all have this information? This board has nothing to hide and they do everything by the books, right?

Anonymous said...

Well they can tell it after they vote on it. It then is public record.

Anonymous said...

does anyone know who has been approved?

Anonymous said...

I tell you what happpened...this board that promised to "shake things up", "get rid of the good ole boy system", and "go the extra mile and work for our children" has gone soft. Everyone up for renewal was accepted. This was there chance to shake things up and get some fresh leadership...at least that's what they told me when i voted for them. Now its more of the same. At least Rob has some backbone and voted like he said he would...Tracey, Tim, Karen, and Bernard are spineless and caved into Burleson. Makes me sick...so much for change, its just more of the same!

Anonymous said...

Yea...shake things up for GOOD principals....thats the way to improve....Burke County has some outstanding principals and you want that "to shake up" just to go against David Burleson....you are a bright one, aren't you??

Anonymous said...

We just need to let Burleson have his way and run our system to the ground. Why has a former assistant principal in this system went and got more education than Burleson.Mark Duckworth is principal at a math and science school in scotland county and just recieved his doctorate. Burleson has been allowed to promote education but not show he has what it takes to further his. Nancy Taylor needs to ask why he has not tried to obtain his doctorate sooner. Oh she got brought down here by her hubby john ervin and was put in a cush job but because of a conflict of interest she was removed. She is a great speaker against the board.Hypocrite.

Anonymous said...

Tim Buff do not look for support from a lot of your backers in further elections. You may have hurt Bryan Grady today. You caved in Big to Burleson and company. Hire Aycock back if you do not plan to do anything.

Anonymous said...

Did everybody get renewed? You have got to be kidding me! Boy the changes. It will not be long before David moves Mike Kenney and puts Rexanna where he wanted to and this board is blind to it. Keep up the Good Work!

Anonymous said...

To 6:34 pm
You are joking, right? I mean talking about Mr. Burleson's education when you obviously support Tim & Tracy who are barely literate.

Anonymous said...

Buddy was grinning from ear to ear tonite while he was drinking his cold beer on the square at the old courthouse tonight. The word got out quick of what had happened at the meeting today. He said look for more changes to come, big changes. A statement was also made that Kenny would not open the doors at DHS in August. Guess who will open them! Things are in the works.
Some supporters of Tim and Tracey were up town tonight and very upset with them. Comments were made that they have lost the support of alot of the 6000 or so supporters who back them during the election. They said thet Tracey and Grady might as well not run for the school board. People were saying that Tim and his group have lied to the people. Tim you might as well be wearing ladies underwear because you don't have the ----- to wear mens. For Bernard, the smoke blower. For Sain who knows, she is in left field somewhere. Rob, the only backbone person on the board and for the rest who cares?
To Caroline Avery. Who are you to judge the people on the board? General Status states that anyone of age and a legal citizen of the US can run for any office. IF you wanted to run for the presidents office you can and nothing could be said. You cannot discriminate for any other reason.

Anonymous said...

To the may 23rd blogger at 8:30pm.
You got that right. You have nail it.

Anonymous said...

It sounds like this Board has realized that maybe they don't speak for the majority of Burke County's citizens and it's time to start doing a little damage control.

Anonymous said...

As a FORMER Tim and Tracy supporter all I can say is ....GUTLESS!!!!

I am very disappointed!

Anonymous said...

When Robert Murray was granted a 4 year stay it shows this Board has no control. Jennifer Beck will be palced at Draughn High to undermine Mike Kenney and get him gone before school opens in August. She will report back to Rexanna and Burleson and document where David can move Mike where he wants and bring Good Ole Girl Rexanna in and pay her off for the Billy Anderson episode. This Board has no brains to forsee what is taking place. As for Pat Draughn getting a one year contract at Draughn, that was bad but to make him athletic director is just plain stupid. He drinks scope by the gallon and says he has leprechauns in his basement. He is one hell of a role model.

Anonymous said...

I bet when the cooper's awoke this morning to find out yesterday's debacles in renewing all contracts, they never thought Pat Draughn would get to be Athletic Director at Draughn. Now Andy Hodges will not be basketball coach and you can bet there will be a price to pay for Tim,Tracy, and Karen abstaining on this one. Now that Rob voted against it I bet they will campaign for three people who will always go along with Rob to get rid of some people in the system.Sorry Tracy you screwed up and you can not revamp this one. I bet momma cooper is beside herself and already looking to find three candidates in 2009.

Anonymous said...

Abstaining is saying that you really dont want to take a position on the issue, unless you have a relative involved or a distinct conflict of interest.

Anonymous said...

Tracy and Tim just did what they told everyone they would change things to get power. So the attorney is gone, they may bring Sherrill in. But the contract situation is not going to be there undoing. Nope, continuing to let Randall do what he wants is what will finally cost them.

Anonymous said...

can anyone give "details" on what happened with the contracts?

Anonymous said...

All principals who were up maybe 11 or 12 were given 4 year extensions.Included were Robert Murray,Brian Oliver, and Bob Accord to name a few. Pat Draugh was sent to Draughn as assistant principal and athletic director. Rob voted against Buddy,Sam,and Dave Barnard voted for, and Tim,Tracyand Karen abstained. There was no reason for him to become athletic director and this is pathetic.Assistant Principal would have been enough pay off from Burleson. He is the lamest excuse for an leader I have seen. All principal's were a 7-0 vote in approval. What a joke.

Anonymous said...

Scope and Leprechauns do not mix!
Pat Draughn was and is a joke. He was one of the idiots who publicly stated law enforcement investigated Billy Anderson and found no wrong doing. He had his nose in the middle of this for a long time now Burleson is rewarding him.

Anonymous said...

4 more years of Brian Oliver at Freedom High? Maybe the board members and central office administrators don't know about the lesbians openly kissing each other in the halls, the students high on their drug of choice, and the smoke being so thick in the bathrooms that you can't see the back walls at Freedom. Burleson thinks Oliver runs a tight ship there since Oliver is a Burleson-crony, but I thought everyone else knew what a joke Oliver is. This is a disappointment, unless they will begin to provide some accountability and an action plan for serious improvements at FHS.

Anonymous said...

Tim has lost his balls...No one is scared of him anymore...he is starting to lose the respect of those who voted for him!

Anonymous said...

Tim still has balls...Tracy keeps them in the top drawer of her dresser and sometimes, if Tima has been a really good boy, she gets them out and lets him play with them!!!

Anonymous said...

Well, this is the way I see it through the eyes of a black person. No one on the school board or in administration has choosen one black person to be a part of DHS. The black comm. needs to pull together and make some changes in the front office and the minds of some of the school board members. We are a part of this community and Bruce Hawkins want do a thing because he is afraid of Burleson. Why hasn't Bruce Ervin spoke up for us. We need someone to come foward and take a stance. Someone in the black comm please hold a comm. meeeting so we can show them we are a part of this school also.

Anonymous said...

I agree with what you are saying but Bruce Ervin is not a part of the Draughn community.

Anonymous said...

To 12:54,

No problem with black people (or anyone else for that matter)serving in these roles. However, I would ask who is qualified to serve in these positions? I don't support affirmative action creating token positions for minorities, just because they're minorities. Everyone should compete for positions based on qualifications.

Anonymous said...

So just give Pat Draughn the job because he is not qualified?

Anonymous said...

If the person isn't qualified then, no, they shouldn't get the job. If several qualified people apply, the idea is to select the person with the best qualifications for the job...period.

Anonymous said...

forget that. We couldnt get that lucky.

Anonymous said...

What do you have against Pat Draughn? Do any of you have a clue about what a great job he has done at East Burke this year? He gets to school every day at 5:00 AM to make sure the bus drivers show up and usually one of the last administrators to leave. Not to mention all the crap he has to deal with during the school day. If anyone deserves to continue his job as AP, it's Pat Draughn. He is one of the most dedicated educators in Burke County.

Anonymous said...

To May 23, 8:30...

I just talked to the person handing out the bracelets Friday night. Those folks working the "bar" all know Mr. Armour because his wife works for the city. Mr. Armour did not get one. You cannot drink beer or wine without one.

Mr. Barnard did get a bracelet. I think YOU were so hammered, you could not tell WHO was drinking.

Anonymous said...

Who was spotted at Sam's Club wearing His'n'Hers Turkey Federation T-shirts? It was the same two who preach Buy N Burke, work together at the Enola fruit stand, and run Burke County Schools.

And me without a camera phone...
Priceless, nontheless!

Anonymous said...

About us black people. There are plenty of them in the system that are quilified for alot of the positions but Burleson has something against black people.

He does not care for Kasey Rogers at Freedom. I hope Terry Rogers runs for school board. You will se Burleson crying again.

Anonymous said...

His name is spelled Casey. How do u know he does not care for Casey. He is a great guy and coach.

Anonymous said...

Why are Tim and Tracy wearing Turkey Federation T-shirts - I heard they were "kicked out"!!

I just love hearing those that supported Tim whinning about him not doing what he said he would do....could that mean that good Olde Tim Buff LIED?????? NEVER!

Anonymous said...

Sorry for the mispelling of Casey. I didn't say anything bad about Casey. I stated that Burleson does not care for him. He also does not care for the Fox girl that coaches at Freedom.

Anonymous said...

Coach Fox cut his daughter, I think we can read between the lines on that one.

Anonymous said...

Pat Draughn may have deserved assistant principal but not ad and burleson is just paying people off.

Anonymous said...

Does his daughter serve a right to make the team over everybody else???

Anonymous said...

I am pretty sure there was not an agenda over her not making the team.

Anonymous said...

Maybe they were OLD T-shirts. The report that they were seen together wearing the same clothes is just plain gross.

But the "good" folks who will not accept the language and plot of The Kite Runner accept this behavior? What's wrong with this picture???

Anonymous said...

To May 23, 8:30 PM:

Are you sure Armour was grinning from ear to ear Friday night? He never grins. I think you have mistaken Armour for Bernard.

I was there. Armour was seated with his wife and daughter and spoke to no one that I could see. Bernard was quite chatty as he stood near the beer tent. Grady and wife were on the other side of the Courthouse nearer the stage.

Anonymous said...

He was drunk, He got drunk before he got there. I smelled alcohol on him.

Anonymous said...

I believe you were drunk. Why? Because only a drunk person would mistake Mr. Armour for Mr. Barnard "drinking a cold beer and chatting it up, grinning ear to ear." Why lie about something like that? If the iced tea in Mr. Armour's hand was beer then heck, most of the courthouse lawn was or should have been drunk. Get your facts straight before you run your mouth!

Anonymous said...

No, but Armour does drink he has been seen at Lake James Pub having a beer.

Anonymous said...

geez...grow up you whiny people & quit harping about this person or that person having a beer or tea...get back to what this site was set up for...bashing the fab five's policy/decision making...

Anonymous said...

Last night at the retiree's banquet, Buff was a featured speaker. My husband said Buff compared the lives and careers of the retirees to the "dash between the birth and death dates on a tombstone".

A dash? That's it? A dash? He said it brought tears to his eyes. I guess you had to be there...

Anonymous said...

I heard Burleson give home spun speaches that only he thought was humerous.I would have had to have heard Tim's speech but it may not have came off the way he intended. Not defending him but some people are not good public speakers.

Anonymous said...

If you are not a good public speaker, then you should not speak in public. Sounds like you are defending him and attacking Burleson.

Anonymous said...

I will attack Burleson or Buff or praise them if I feel like it and if you do not like it shut down the blog.Im sick and tired of people acting like it is a sin to speak against Burleson. He and Tim Buff are liars and I do not trust anything they say.Burleson is a snake oil salesman, and Tim has just lied to his electorate.

Anonymous said...

Burleson will soon move a lot of principals around. Mike Kenney watch out.Burleson will do what it takes to get Lowman in Draughn as soon as possible. He does not need board approval. Just look what Charlotte schools superintendent did this week. He moved six top performing principals to low performing schools.Burleson will do what it takes to pay people he owes. The board can not stop lateral moves but it can play dirty in other ways if Burleson undermines them. My advice is hire an attorney as soon as possible. Make a rule the administration has to document everything they say to the attorney.

Anonymous said...

No, David would not do that! I think he knows what he can do and just how far to push this board. They would retaliate by getting rid of a few positions that are not really needed. I think whoever the attorney is, it needs to be someone who quotes the law not what administration or board members want to hear.

Anonymous said...

Snake oil salesman is a rather broad term. You are just like all others on this blog...Burleson must go, but never any specifics or how things can be done better. No one is going to make everyone happy all the time and unless you are an idiot, you will have to admit that most of what Burleson has done has benefited students in Burke County. Ask people in other counties if they love their superintendent every minute of every day. Someone has to be in charge and make tough decisions and at this time it happens to be Burleson. I would much rather have Burleson in charge than the barely literate school board. Only fools want them making the decisions. And as for you, snake oil guy, I hope the next superintendent is perfect in every way, handles every situation exactly as you would and hires all your relatives.
Obviously this is the path to true happiness.

Anonymous said...

Hey maybe the next super can hire ALL new principals, teachers and central office staff, that should solve all problems. I think he should do it all at one time, wipe out the entire system and have all new people in place the next day. Seems like that would be more efficient than the board's plan of knocking off people one by one.

David will move principles around because he knows he is out of here. And half of the board members will stand behind him. WATCH and SEE !

Superintendent David C. Burleson welcomes you to the Burke County Public School System and the system’s website. Mr. Burleson leads the 2,500 plus school system employees as a strong proponent of each student’s worth and as an innovator in exploring a variety of opportunities to reach each student’s potential. Working diligently with all staff, he sustains attention to the components of successful schools – curriculum, school organization, educational philosophies, instructional practices, family and community involvement. He recognizes all of the above as powerful tools in unleashing the power for student success.

A graduate of Appalachian State University with an EDS. in Administration, Mr. Burleson, an Avery County native, high school valedictorian and Magna Cum Laude honoree, came to Burke County in l982 where he began his career at Freedom High School as a math teacher and coach. He served as assistant principal of that school from l989 through 1991 until becoming the principal of what was then Oak Hill Junior High School. He returned to Freedom as principal in l992 and remained in this capacity until moving into the associate superintendent’s position in l996. Mr. Burleson became superintendent in 2000 and has been a pioneer in education from pre-k to grade twelve and beyond. Under his leadership, the school system recently was awarded the prestigious National Magna Award of Excellence for its pre-k mobile education on wheels. His unparalleled list of accomplishments include the following: helped develop the Burke County Public Schools Drug Policy, developed the first PTO at Freedom High School, created summer camps for students, procured millions of dollars in grant monies to address student need/creative programming, and realized alternative educational programs for those who need a different approach to education. Also, during Mr. Burleson’s tenure as superintendent, the county has experienced the lowest drop-out rate in the public school system’s history.

Professionally, he has received local, regional and state Principal of the Year Awards, Burke County Educational Office Personnel Administrator of the Year Awards for four years, 2001 North Carolina Middle School Association Superintendent of the Year Award as well as acknowledgement for several published articles and innovative presentations.

Very active in church and in community affairs, David has a litany of volunteer and leadership accolades including church member, deacon, Sunday school teacher, and active participant in the Morganton Rotary Club, Tar Heel Association of Principals, National Association of Secondary School Principals, Burke County Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the North Carolina Standards Board as well as serving on several local community boards and committees for a better Burke County. He has a broad spectrum of other interests which mainly involve being a Civil War enthusiast and spending time with his wife, Beth and two children, Heather and Shannon.

Anonymous said...

Why does David need to move princiPALS?(principles are beliefs by the way, principals are the leaders of schools) That comment sounds like another example of the current Fab 5's actions that are motivated by "getting back" at people by moving them or just another way for them to show they are in control of something. Let them move people around, voters are already getting sick of them making decisions that are not based on the best interest of students, this just sounds like another example.

Anonymous said...

I have heard that the Fraud Five renewed all contracts with the intent of moving pprincipals around in hopes that some would quit. Then it looks like they did not do anything adverse to the system. Not renewing contracts would be too controversial, while moving people around seems more benign.

Anonymous said...

To 3:34 AM,
I think you are correct. I understand they have targeted some principals for relocation as a condition of renewing their contracts. But what the Fraudulent 5 don't realize is that if a principal is moved, she or he is going to KNOW she (or he) has been targeted. Who wants to work under such a bunch of meddlers? They apparently want to take away the decision-making authority of our principals as much as the law will allow. Since most of them are limited in their management ability, they do not understand that delegating authority is not the same as delegating responsibility. A school board is always going to be responsible for what happens throughout the system, but they are absolutely unqualified to make the thousands of day-to-day decisions that must be made by site leaders. If they think they are qualified, then they should hire themselves to do curriculum, bus duty, discipline, etc.

Anonymous said...

The last couple of comments are correct the Fab-5 feel threatened by several principles. The Fab-5 will do what ever it takes to be on top, even if it means sucking up to David B. on certain issues.

Anonymous said...

he's a Civil War enthusiast...a buff if you will.

Anonymous said...

To you idiots David has the power to move principals at any time and will. Watch an two elementary schools get new principals soon. All David's doing. If I were on the board I would make sure they knew this was his decision within his authority.

Anonymous said...

We know that you dumb ass, when did you wake up?

Anonymous said...

Are you talking about Hawkins being moved from WA Young, and Mike Holden going to Icard? Who else will Burleson move to make them think it is the board.I think he will screw Mike Kenney soon. This will be to show the board who is boss.Burleson has been told not to move a bunch of principals. Let's see if he listens or Tim and his gang let Burleson keep being insubordinate.

Anonymous said...

"Let's see if he listens or Tim and his gang let Burleson keep being insubordinate.".......Now boy that is a joke...insubordinate????? If Mr. Burleson had been insubordinate, as you put it, he would have never given Mike Kenney's name as a recommendation in the first place. That's what happened in Caldwell County several years back...the board tried to force the super into hiring who they wanted and he just refused to give the recommendation of who they wanted....Insubordinate...that really makes me laugh.

Anonymous said...

Buddy, its real late for you to be ranting.Take your medication and schedule a counseling session before the next board meeting. You will be okay in Nov 09 you will not have to meet with Tim,Karen,Rob or Dave on a regular basis.

Anonymous said...

Wadcutter, you are wise to see what this administration is doing...removing the power of those who should be able to choose.

People think capping medical malpractice awards is a good idea...but then when we think about it, the cloak is removed from the dagger: The people elect the legislature. The legislature is lobbied to by the medical community. The legislature decides that those people who ELECTED THEM cannot sit on a jury and be trusted to give out reasonable awards because they're star struck or whatever their reasoning is...and the legislature puts the issue of Tort Reform on a ballot, and gives it up to a referendum. The people see this and get frightened that they're insurance premiums will go up (bullshit), and vote for limiting their rights to recover for malpractice, and their right to award damages as they see fit and reasonable.

Yet, the legislature does this, and still allows the juries (the same people they've limited in awarding damages in med-mal cases) to decide life and death for capital offenses. What the hell, man?

By letting the principals know the moves are coming, the Board has tilted their hand, and shown what they've got...not a good idea...

Anonymous said...

Burleson is doing the moves for principals. He has spent many hours at East Burke behind closed doors this week with Rexanna Lowman. Is their something going on?These two have done this many times in the last year and when they do it benefits no one. Mike Kenney watch your back!

Anonymous said...

The board members spend way to much time at Patton High school kissing Shanda Mcfarlin's rear and need to go to other schools. Are they working a deal to bring her to Central Office?

Anonymous said...

Tim, Karen, Rob & Dave WILL win again. You read it here first. They have the majority, while you are now in the minority. Deal with it. Quit crying in your beer & eat your chocolate.

Anonymous said...

Tim, Karen, Rob, and Dave may win again, but the students will lose -again.

I appreciate the blogger who would not want Tracy looking after HER child. Same here. And I do not want the other four "caring" for MY children either.

Thank goodness there is a superintendent and a corps of principals to keep these so-called "straight shooting" (Buff's favorite self-descriptor) people away from my kids.

Anonymous said...

Caroline Avery's son Clifton was in court on 5-19-08 on possesion of toxicating beverages for a minor..Why would she want to talk about the schools when she has no control over her son much like you proclaim tracy does?

Anonymous said...

Well, Caroline Avery is not on the school board! Tracy is. And Tracy's record in 2 1/2 years - not counting her own bouts with the law - is far from stellar. Her two consecutive summer trips to the beach at county expense, her visiting on more than one occasion with the families whose sons videotaped students in a locker room, her "temporaarily" living out-of-district for over a year, and now her trying to slip in a different district map than the one Hairfield first proposed - this is typical behavior that her own children would not admit to.

So go ahead, you and her boss-man, keep defending her. It's only a matter of time before the Buff Brigade hang themselves. More people than ever are watching - especially the ones who voted for them. Sooner or later Tim and Company will run out of rope.

Anonymous said...

What the fuck is a "toxicating" beverage???

Idiot...

Anonymous said...

Buddy, please do not use foul language. You can talk about Tracy going home and you are probably right.Surely you do not think the people will re elect a dumb, stupid, and downright moron to the board? If you think last time was rough you have not seen nothing yet.Lie on your opponets all you will you will not hear the gun go off.

Anonymous said...

Talk of spending taxpayers funds in a questionable manner. You wait til july, you and the public will have a major shock of what has went on under the past boards taxpayer watch. It is not kosher and I think the administration is in for meltdown.Only Buddy and Sam was around when this crap happend.Buddy Armour, I bet you 100 dollars you can not spin this one!

"Talk of spending taxpayers funds in a questionable manner. You wait til july, you and the public will have a major shock of what has went on under the past boards taxpayer watch."

I'm wondering if the writer of the above masterpiece ever took an English course. He doesn't even know how to use the verbs "gone" and "went". And usually the months of the year begin with a LARGE letter.

Thank you for believing I'm Armour. At least he has a command of the language. Please share with us, oh Wise Ones - what you think will be revealed in July.

Is this another one of those run-for-the-hills predictions?

Have you heard of criminal background checks? One candidate had a conviction in Catawba County that "accidentally" got overlooked by the press. It will not be overlooked again, and YOU cannot stop it.

Before someone makes the statement that the board only approved a 3% raise for the teachers you need to look a the SEANC websit. Let it be known that the N.C. House approved only a 3% raise for teachers. So don't blame the board

Anonymous said...

Im sorry that rexanna lowman queen of the gypsy people thought she actually had a chance at becoming principal. Doug is a nice guy but intrenched in david's rats nest so it was not to be. This board deserves a gold star for telling the good ole boys to hell with you. Keep it up!
This board deserves a "gold star" for placing a principal who openly campaigned for the "new board"? If that's not the ultimate hypocrisy, I don't know what is.
You sound like another disgruntled ex-employee with an axe to grind to me.
What's the deal with the "good ole boys" comments? Are you people that crazy? It's almost as if some on the board and some citizens dislike people who give their lives to education. Everyone who has an axe to grind against educators they either are jealous of or have envy towards showed up to vote. The change that has occurred with this new board is supported by people who have no idea what it takes daily to educate and help our children grow into the leaders of tomorrow. They are all about revenge against those they "think" have treated them unfairly. It makes me sick that BCPS educators, especially on the Eastern end of the county, are having to put up with the nonsense of this board and some of our citizens.
You dumbasses keep refering to Mr. Buff as the grocery store owner when one of your very own Joel Abee just sold out his gas station to abunch of foriegners. What a way to boost our economy! Thanks alot selling local marts to foriegn rag heads. And about Mrs. Rhoney.. If I ever had the nerve to complain in behalf of my husband not landing his "dream job" to write a letter and whine about his lack of credentials. What employer would even take the time to read such a letter?! At first glance of the letter I was immediately taken back to my first job. We were told that if any of our parents called in reference to being disgruntled about treatment that we might as well quit. They didnt want to hear from our mommies and daddies.. And in the same situation no one wants to hear from the wife. Maybe instead of quarelling about Mr. Rhoney not getting the job attention should be turned to why Mr. Burleson broke confedientiality by telling the community about the reference for principle. If it wasn't for this act maybe the Patriots wouldn't have taken such a hard hit.

More casualties...

Technology has now lost Clint Garrison and Donna Murray - both to higher-paying jobs and to a more secure environment.

They saw how Scott was being attacked, how this stupid board doesn't know the difference between a teaching coach and an expert in technology application, and how the fabric of this school system is unraveling under the control of the Buffoons.

Let's see Buff and Hairfield and Norman and Sain and Barnard maintain 5000 computers, a phone system, two dozen websites, and all the servers and routers it takes to keep the technology ship afloat.

I want to hear Barnard say again in open session that "If employees cannot accept the wishes of this board, then we probably don't need them anyway."

Since Hairfield and Barnard need the work, let THEM pull the wires, diagnose and fix the problems.

Six months on the job, and the BCPS skool bored continues to provide laughs and good employees for the other 114 school systems in North Carolina.

Going from great to mediocre - are we there yet?

When the server goes down in the county or the computers in the school lab go down, are we to call the Buffoons or ghostbusters? I think it is so wise of the board to go after the tech positions since we are trying to educate our students for 21st century employment. The "good ole boys" will be replaced by some "good ole boys" known to this board. I can't really see the difference.

How about the next time Tim and Tracy ask for loads of information that will take the technology folks away from their regular duties for hours and days at a time? I hope Scott Smith tells them to get it themselves. But then they'll cry "Insubordination!"

Oh yes, Scott Smith can be replaced. But the plan of the NEW board majority is to save money by replacing cream with curds, experience with novices, and intelligence with fools they can control. If the Fab Five have their way, our children will be taught by people as qualified and as brilliant as them.

Dr. Smith stays because of an intangible you would know nothing about: he cares about students. That may sound corny or trite, but you Buff babies have no idea what it means to dedicate your life to the well being of kids you DON'T know.

Dr. Smith is a teaching fellow. That honor in itself says something about why he has not sought the fortune he could make in another industry. So when he does leave - and he probably will - he will go to another school system or a college where he can help students. Again, something you neither care or know nothing about.

To 2:10 through 4:57,

When Buff and Norman and Hairfield and Barnard and Sain say they care about kids, I can assure you I do not believe them. When they make an appearance, they are so obviously there for show - not substance.

To associate Dr. Smith with a child molester would be like associating you with one. If that fits him, then it must certainly fit you.

You fine people don't want students to succeed; you want them to cost less. You don't want what's best for them; you want what's best for the taxpayer. You don't want to hire first-class educators, principals, and administrators; you want to hire people who earn less than you so you can feel superior to someone - hell, anyone.

You don't like Dr. Smith because you are jealous of his position, his education, his character, and his demeanor. You and your Buff worshippers cannot stand the fact that regardless of what you Buffoons say about Dr. Smith or even do to him, he will continue to be a success.

And you will not.

Anonymous said...

I agree with you about Buff and Norman probably being at functions for show. I do not know about Karen or Barnard.I do know that Rob,Buddy, and Sam have attended many functions and Rob has before he got elected. To accuse many of them of being there for show one must question David Burleson riding around town going not only to school functions, but to social functions.I think the superintendent needs to spend more time worring about the schools than what John Ervin and the upper society thinks. As for your attack on whether I want the children to succeed I truly do but I do not believe that Burke County has a plastic bubble that has the only Administration and Management to educate our children. You saying that I want them to make as much as me is Bull you know what because they should make more than I. But, I believe the person who should make the most inthis town and I am not a big fan of his or the one before him, but his position should be paid more than Burleson and that is the Sheriff. He has the people's safety at hand.He puts his officer's and his own family at risk every day of being killed. All the Superintendent does is maybe get an asschewing by a parent. Now im sure that is not worth it to him but lets look at it outside your burke schools only employee's of certain creed can educate the children way of thinking. Our teachers make the difference not Scott Smith.

June 5, 2008 8:02pm sounds a lot like Buddy Armour.

Ok, we know that Buddy and Dr. Scott Smith are personal friends and former church buddies from NMUMC until Scott's wife was moved to another church out of town, and we know that Buddy is the one who pushed for Scott to have this job.

So when Buddy gives all these accolades to Dr. Smith, we know it's coming from a biased source who has a stake in Scott's success. Afterall, Buddy got him the job. So, Buddy wants him to look good. That way Buddy looks good and we're all happy about what a great board member we have in Buddy Armour.

Wouldn't it be great if Buddy would put all his personal bias aside and vote on personnel matters based on the facts rather than who he's friends with? He'll have another chance to do this on Monday,so let's see if he votes based on what's presented or if he votes based on who's related to his friends.

2 NEWS HERALD ARTICLES

DRAUGHN HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL NAMED
By Heather Sanders
hsanders@morganton.com
Friday, February 1, 2008

..."After the meeting, Buff said he would like to now how Lowman and Rhoney's names got out into the community because the superintendent's recommendation is a confidential personnel matter.
Buff said he didn't find out about Burleson's updated recommendation until it was sent Wednesday. Buff said he received calls both in support of and not in support of Rhoney since the weekend of Jan. 26."

And here's my favorite... Buddy is quoted revealing personnel information to a local newspaper reporter. This is priceless!

DECISIONS ON DRAUGHN UP IN AIR
By Heather Sanders
hsanders@morganton.com
Monday, January 7, 2008

"Armour said although the recommendation was in closed session, the vote was in open session. Armour said he had no problem with revealing the name of the applicant, especially since the public has come forward in support of Lowman.
“Who would want to be second behind Rexanna Lowman?” Armour said."

Can someone please tell me why it was on the up-and-up for the public to know who the board was voting on to be the principal of Draughn? Isn't this a private personnel matter? Geez... let's raise the level of professionalism so that those "in the know" will stop talking about personnel matters in public. Discretion is a good thing, especially when their recommendation isn't approved. It's too bad Lowman and Rhoney were openly used as political pawns. Tsk tsk.

To: You say Baloney I say Bologna

PLEASE GIVE SOME EXAMPLES OF "postings that are illegal".

Anonymous said...

4:09pm,
Baloney wasn't accusing anyone of illegal postings. Henry did. So, follow along with this conversation.

First June 6, 2008 6:35 AM posted:
"Wouldn't it be great if Buddy would put all his personal bias aside and vote on personnel matters based on the facts rather than who he's friends with? HE'LL HAVE ANOTHER CHANCE TO DO THIS ON MONDAY, SO LET'S SEE IF HE VOTES BASED ON WHAT'S PRESENTED OR IF HE VOTES BASED ON WHO'S RELATED TO HIS FRIENDS. I know, it's a nice dream. Then, Henry (Buddy) said...

"Okay, 6:35 AM. If you know who is coming up on a personnel report, you are either a board member or someone who has illegally received a copy of a personnel report that is yet to be voted on.

You'd better hope I or my computer friends do not have the software to track your IP address.

June 6, 2008 8:11 PM"
(Henry thinks 6:35am is privy to personnel information which will be presented at Monday's board meeting.)

Then, it looks like the "You Say Baloney" and "See the Glass House" were posted in response to Henry's threat about tracking an IP address.

The only example of an illegal posting I can recall is the one posted a few months ago about Tracy Norman being a lesbian. That's libel. But, maybe the Blog Administrator has deleted it since then.

so, you gave an example (one posted a few months ago about Tracy Norman being a lesbian)

Examples of favoritism?

Voting against a personnel recommendation for a high school basketball coach and stating before the vote that they were rejecting the recommendation because they felt a math teacher at that school with no varsity head-coaching experience deserved the job instead.

Voting down TWO superintendent recommendations for DHS's principal until their favorite nominee was finally brought before them.

Demanding the reinstatement of a position back into the budget against the wishes of the superintendent in order to fulfill some apparent commitment to an individual wanting to return to Burke County.

Need any more examples?

And when a citizen asks for the names and salaries of all the people employed by Burke County Schools who make OVER $35,000 per year (yes, legally anyone is entitled to that information) is that a level of professionalism we all want to achieve?

Then why is the disclosure of a person or persons rejected by a board in an open-session vote unprofessional? This is a personnel matter, yes. But so are their titles and their salaries. It's all public record.

Next, I suppose the runner-up in the upcoming presidential election should not be disclosed. We should only announce the winner and not tell anyone who was rejected by the people. Afterall, both candidates are employees of the people...

"It's too bad Lowman and Rhoney were openly used as political pawns. Tsk tsk."

Don't worry, none of us believe that you care anything about Lowman or Rhoney. Your secret is still safe, and your motive is still obvious.

When is the big announcement about Hodges being named basketball coach? There are many many posts here from folks who were 100% certain that there was some sort of a political payoff deal in place. Remember, that was the reason that the Lowman and Rhoney didn't get the job....because of the deal. So where is it? Is it just possible here was no deal? I want to hear from the people that asserted all of this. You hurt people....tell us when the announcement will come.

Chad Wright's name will be taken to the board Monday night as a special ed. teacher and basketball coach. He may get approved but I bet Tim, Tracy, and Karen will either vote against him or abstain from voting. If they can get Rob and/or Bernard to vote with them, Wright may be turned down and there is still a chance "Uncle Andy" could be the new coach.

How do you know who the candidate is? What happened to the supposed political payoff? Everyone was 100% certain about this.

"Scott Lambert as a head coach. The prophesy is being fulfilled. That only leaves Andy Hodges coming to DHS to coach basketball. Looks like Iron Mike Kenney is right in lock-step with Der Furer Tim."

Could all the tongue wagging teeth grinders have been wrong? C'mon...when is the big announcement you said was certain?

There will be some more political plots by Burleson, and Brackett to protect certain employee's monday. It is already known Brackett and Joe Crump have been calling in maintenance men and telling them not to talk to board members.A clear threat that must be brought up and put a dead stop to. Brackett is on borrowed time and he will step in it big soon.He can not continue in these manners. Another, statement made by Burleson is he will show this board who is boss, and who has the power by not reccomending Rick Sherrill to the associate's job. That could be true if he does not make the reccomendation that he will not be hired, but I would talk to many attorneys about this.If Burleson pulls this I would do some counteractions to combat his insobordination. He is stiring as much as he can up.A true sign he is nervous, but not nervous enough yet.

Both school boards have sucked.Every school board I can remember has shown favortism to they're friends.

C'mon, Buddy. Comparing a recommendation made by the Superintendent for the board's approval to an open presidential race where the people vote and decide? Obviously, that's Apples to Oranges.

But maybe that would make a good question for the folks in Raleigh next time you're taking your board member training. It would go something like this...

"Um, excuse me, Mr. Instructor, but why can't we disclose the names of the candidates to the newspaper who didn't receive board approval? What? You say it's unprofessional and would prove to be embarassing to the candidates, and DISCRETION is an important virtue within the administration and local board of education, not to mention it's against the law to disclose closed session information - hence the term CLOSED session? Yeah, but we all know who the candidates are in the presidental election. So, isn't it the same thing?"

I wonder if the instructor could keep a straight face during that question.

"Mike IS a good person, but he won't decline the job. It's a raise in pay for him and consequently a big boost for his retirement. Tim and Tracy and their three co-stooges know exactly what they are doing. They are paying off campaign debt to Kristie Hodges, Chip Cooper, and Libby Cooper for delivering the support of the Democrats on election day. They are paying off that debt on the backs of the Draughn Community - the only community, ironically, that did NOT support Buff and his buffoons.

Securing Andy Hodges a head basketball position has been the motive for this mess all along. Will the Draughn community sit back and take it? We're riled up now, but how will we feel a week or a month or a year from now? When Kristie and Chip move from EBHS over to Draughn - and you know they will - won't that be a real slap in the face?"

When? You've drug peoples name through this over and over. When is the announcement proving you were correct?

Anonymous said...

I was told by someone the other day that Draughn was going to fire a former head coach at Hibriten as the mens basketball coach.

Anonymous said...

I meant hire not fire.Sorry about the typo.

Regarding Favoritism:

A. "Voting against a personnel recommendation for a high school basketball coach and stating before the vote that they were rejecting the recommendation because they felt a math teacher at that school with no varsity head-coaching experience deserved the job instead."

First of all, I hope that information was stated in open session, not closed session.
Secondly, what was the personal connection to the math teacher? Close personal friend? Relative? Political Payoff? What? Why do you think they really chose that candidate?

B. "Voting down TWO superintendent recommendations for DHS's principal until their favorite nominee was finally brought before them."

Gimme a break. The first two candidates are Burleson's buddies, and the board voted to hire someone outside of the Good-Ol-BUDDY-system. In other words, they refused to go along with Burleson's favoritism. That's why the Fab 5 were elected - to break up Buddy's System.

You know, it's really unfortunate for the candidates that Burleson demanded a public showdown involving two rejected candidates. He knew the recommendations would fail, but he brought them before the board in open session anyway, forcing a public rejection. And then when Kenney was approved, did you catch the look on Burleson's face and the tone of his voice? No Congratuations, no well wishes. No nothing. I understand Burleson didn't even call him until sometime that weekend. Hopefully some lessons were learned over that debacle.

C. "Demanding the reinstatement of a position back into the budget against the wishes of the superintendent in order to fulfill some apparent commitment to an individual wanting to return to Burke County."

This story hasn't even been played out, yet, so it's premature to put that on your list. But even if RS somehow gets recommended, I can't see the favoritism.

First Burleson says he needs an Assoc Super, then he decides he doesn't want one. Someone must have thought we needed a Super back when they hired Anderson. Why don't they need one now?

Is it because you are afraid the board is bringing in a #2 man who will be ready to take Burleson's place when he leaves? There's rumors everywhere that he's putting applications out in other systems. Or, is it because you don't want an outsider to step in and see how things really work within the Central Office of BCPS - raise a red flag and and suggest changes? (Oooo... we just hate accountability and transparency). We know Brackett is on his way out, so wouldn't it be prudent to have a "VP" in place?

I'm so confused. I thought personnel recommendations were confidential, but June 8th 7:19AM posted someone that will be discussed during CLOSED session. Maybe the candidate is a blogger on skool bored.

In the words of Henry,
" Okay, 6:35 AM. If you know who is coming up on a personnel report, you are either a board member or someone who has illegally received a copy of a personnel report that is yet to be voted on."

OKAY - THANK YOU

NOW, WHO WAS HE ?

Former East Burke teacher Billy Anderson took it upon himself to police the kids and and their belongings. This is obviously an infringement on their Fourth Amendment rights as expressed in the Bill of Rights. "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated.

The ongoing internal investigation of reported thefts at East Burke High School is a "huge conflict of interest"

DUH ? YA DON'T SAY

Billy Anderson's father is Andy Anderson, associate superintendent of the school system.

The coach's father-in-law is Steve Demiter, personnel director of Burke County Public Schools.

Armour walked into The News Herald office to deliver his letter of resignation to Duke Conover. He had gotten caught doing some dirty campaigning.....he withdrew the letter.

Chad Wright will be the person picked for basketball coach.

Anonymous said...

Who is Chad Wright....and how do you know this? What happened to the much discussed political payoff deal?

Anonymous said...

Get your shit straight....the resignation was a crooked play by our local editor of the newspaper at the time. Hince that editor is no longer with us. I can tell you he was forced to write a letter against his will and certainly did not "walk" into the newspaper headquarters carrying it. We can all thank one certain ex-campaignee and his cohorts who have had and continue to have their political agendas spreading this bull. If we want to discuss dirty politics...let us all venture to surrounding counties and our county and look at public records of those trying to or those that have tried to get elected. There was no dirty campaigning on Armour's part. Unfortunately the rumor circled Burke County long before the newpaper found out about it , NOR was it spread by Mr. Armour. Like I said...get your facts straight before you run your mouth. By the way...glass houses are not energy efficient...therefore Armour would not have one--and no, this is not Mr. Armour writing...

REF: "let us all venture to surrounding counties"

naw, let's just stay here in burke county

Correct.
It was Buddy Armour.

"forced to write a letter against his will"

i don't think so. doesn't sound like the 'buddy' i know.

perhaps it is you needing to get your facts straight.

Anonymous said...

Sorry....sometimes the facts sting a little. I am having a little trouble following you here. Please explain which "one" Buddy would not have?lol...

"...therefore Armour would not have one--and no, this is not Mr. Armour writing...

FORCED TO WRITE IT? THAT'S FUNNY.

IN FACT, A SCANNED ORIGINAL COPY OF LETTER STEPPING DOWN WAS PUBLISHED ON THE EDITORIAL PAGE.

THEN, THE BUD CHANGED HIS MIND.

3:50pm, its easy to tell you ain't Armour. He wouldn't say "get your shit straight", and I think he knows how to spell Hence. But thanks for the heads up anyway.
