Bryan Grady is probably going to nail Buddy according to the audio from the meeting.He never should have made blaytant accusations from floor as a board member he can not prove.
In order to have all the issues identified, brainstormed, and resolved-- is there an out-of-county 'neutral' facilitator we could consider to make the most of the collective talent we have at the table at meetings?
Are there proactive alternatives in public decision making, particularly the ones that affect the lives of our public school children (the common issue that binds us all0 that move us forward in a positive way? Can we all work together for every child who attends Burke County Public Schools?
If we can't all work together in a positive way, what are we modelling for our youth?
I was stunned when Mr. Buff make the comment about the media committee....wanting to know the names and the "walks of life they come from"....unbelievable that he would make such a statement in an open board meeting and then get upset when someone points out that Tracy is an idiot.
Sounds like Tracy is altering the maps again to make sure she is living in her district. If she had not left her husband and 3 children maybe the county would not have spent so much money and time to map her inside her lawful area. I bet her husband had a party when she left.

Yeah, most people know when they meet.Is it ironic that Burleson passed out papers at his church asking members to attend the board meeting on monday night?Seems he was worried they would fire him.The board just got about a million unexpected dollars from the lottery.I say lets buy out Burleson and Brackett with this money and have there past leadership on issues investigated.This would be a wise investment on behalf of the people of Burke County.
As a member of burlesons church, he did not hand out a letter. it was from some concerned citizens, not the burlesons. Leave his church out of this. Ask Burkemont who Tim sits with at church. How about that?

Tracy is no idiot. She took it upon herself to get the new maps altered. Tim tried to rush the new maps through at the meeting. Buddy called her on it. She was not authorized to move the map lines to make sure she was living in her district this time. If she had only stayed at home with her husband and three sons she would have been in the correct district.
It sounds like the News Herald was not even at the meeting based on their biased reporting today. Like the old saying The Newsless Hearld.
Armour walked into The News Herald office to deliver his letter of resignation to Duke Conover. He had gotten caught doing some dirty campaigning.....he withdrew the letter.
It appears Buddy has been trying to get a lot of people there tonight where he can get into a heated debate with the so called five.They have gotten wind of it and will embarass Buddy out of his seat.If he knew what was coming he would stay at home tonight.Its only because he has relatives up for positions tonight that he can not wait to get there. Newless Herald .... "Who authorized you to change the map?" Armour demanded. "It's not the map that I was voting for on May 5."
According to several board members, the change in district lines from April 21 to May 5 was not fully disclosed or discussed during open session.
"I received a phone call from a man, who would not tell me his name, several days after we voted on the map," says board member Sam Wilkinson. "He was wondering if I knew that a board member had gone to the GIS office and made changes to the map the day of the vote. I told him no I was unaware of such a thing. He wouldn't tell me which board member, but told me the line had been changed to include the residence of an individual who could run for school board in the central district."
Wilkinson said he subsequently went to the GIS department and learned Norman had changed the April 21 map on the day of the May 5 vote.
Other board members say they, too, were unaware the April 21 map had been changed.
"I had no idea the map was different," says board member Karen Sain. "I was glad to vote the map through and get on to more serious issues concerning the welfare of our teachers and students. No one told me or pointed out that the maps had been changed. I saw the map was dated May 5, but I assumed that was for purposes of the vote."
Is Tim also having an affair with someone at the No News Hearld? It appears they are only reporting the bare minimum of Monday's meeting. Karen Sain seemed to be under the infulence of something last night. When she would look at someone she would get this fake grin where she shows her teeth and then closes her mouth and begins to blink her eyes really fast for several seconds. She did not make a peep all night. I doubt she would have known the new Tracy Map from a map of South Carolina. This group is so ignorant to the guidelines even on how to conduct a meeting.
Does the actions of Ms Tracy Buff changing the Tracy Map not sound like another reason to have her removed. How can the taxpayers of Burke County continue to let her cost us so much money over her living arrangements and now her unauthorized manipulation of the district lines. Don't forget about the expense of her CSI Icard Series last year. For someone who failed as a wife, mother, home school teacher, part-time teaching assistant, part-time personal trainer and anything else she has come in contact with. Is this someone you want representing Burke County?
Sounds to me like Ms. Norman got caught (once again) aiding a fellow cohort and doing the dirty work for Mr. Buff. I would think at some point this would be considered fraud in some form or fashion and should be handed over to lawyers. It also sounds to me like Mr. Grady needs to create a diversion with the request for emails because he has been caught in more ways than one with this situation and past situations. Seriously... Does anyone really not find it ironic that these "new lines," once did not but now coincidentally does, include the particular road of someone that we all know wants to run for the board again? I do believe that all of you against Mr. Armour really needs to re-evaluate all of this info and use those "reasoning" skills your teachers taught you before jumping on the Buff Bandwagon.
Rob Hairfield: Teachers are the most important profession because without teachers, there are no other professions.
Karen Brittain Sain: As a nurse, she is entrusted with patients' lives. As a board member, she'll be entrusted with students' lives.
David Barnard: He is running on fixing the dropout rate and creating a strategic plan to achieve goals.
Tim Buff: The schools are doing a good job, but there is room for improvement. The board needs to work with the community and the principals and assistant principals.
Who is the person that wants to run for the board who lives inside the new Tracy Map.
I am asking all the English teachers to help me. Tracy used a word on Monday night that I have never heard used before. She said "I want something CONCRETELEY in writing. She also said that she wanted some questions.
Tim admitted to the Tracy Map Saga being his fault. I suppose this means that both Mr. Buff and Mistress Tracy should be removed. By illegally changing the maps after they were already voted on I feel that this is a case of subordination on both her and her bf's part.

The moral to this story is....
If a good book has controversial subject matter, do not make the parents aware of it before introducing it for the first time. Once it's become part of our coursework, it is virtually impossible for anyone to have it removed because we can call them book burning censors.
The once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to open a brand new high school in this county was once again pulled out from under one of Burke County's very own: Doug Rhoney.
Doug Rhoney is a life-long resident of Burke County. He's given all 18 years of his career in education to the people and children of this county.
He was a high school teacher for nine years, served as an assistant principal for two years at Table Rock Middle School, became the Principal at Ray Childers Elementary and served that community for five years before assuming the principalship at Heritage Middle School where he is currently in his third year of serving the Heritage community.
On Friday the special called meeting of the Burke County Board of Education turned out to be nothing more than an orchestrated puppet show starring Chairman Tim Buff as the puppet master, Vice-Chair Tracy Norman as his willing assistant and their supporting cast of puppets Karen Sain, Rob Hairfield and David Barnard.
In a 5-2 vote these demagogues voted not to accept the recommendation by the Superintendent for Doug Rhoney to be named Principal of Draughn High School.
This group of five, three of which have sat on the board all of two months, have the arrogance and audacity to claim to know who the best person for the principalship of Draughn High School should be more so than an interview committee comprised of parents, community representatives and central office staff; more so than the Superintendent who himself is a former North Carolina Principal of the Year and this year's Burke County Man of the Year; more so than the community that Draughn High School will serve and last but not least, more so than the two board members who reside in that community and were elected to represent the people of that community.
What an abuse of the power entrusted to them by the people of Burke County.
The mere thought that Doug Rhoney was passed over because he had no high school experience as an assistant principal or principal is absolutely ridiculous.
Any educator or individual with common sense will tell you there's no substitute for proven leadership.
Doug Rhoney is a proven leader. His track record speaks for itself. Perhaps Mr. Buff and Mrs. Norman have conveniently forgotten their vote of a little more than a year ago to approve Shanda McFarlin as the principal of Robert L. Patton High School who had absolutely no experience at the high school level whatsoever at the time of her appointment. (No offense intended to Mrs. McFarlin).
In the quest to remove David Burleson as superintendent these five have proven to the people they're willing to go to any lengths, ethical or not, to get their way.
Ultimately, they have sacrificed the best interests of the children in the Draughn community for their own selfish gain. What an injustice that's been dealt to the kids and to the community.
Speaking of community, according to Mrs. Norman, one person's voice does not represent the community. I would challenge her that neither do two disgruntled EBHS staff members, one of who's husband is a former EBHS assistant boys' basketball coach who is upset that her husband didn't get the head basketball position and the other her brother, along with their small na?ve band of conspirators. Won't it be interesting to see who's awarded the head boys' basketball position at Draughn now?
I hope the Fraudulent Five do not truly believe they've escaped accountability for their actions on this matter. They've denied two of Burke County's best the opportunity of a lifetime; they've sarcastically scoffed at the true Draughn community and its leadership; and they've placed personal agendas, vendettas and spitefulness ahead of student needs, excellent proven leadership and the future success of Draughn High School.
Whether they answer to the people or not, there's one to whom they will all answer and he knows the heart. "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." (Galatians 6:7)
I would like to thank the people of the Draughn community, the many students and the many BCPS teachers and staff for all of the phone calls, e-mails and apologies that Doug has received over the last few days. The outpouring of support for him as he walks through this valley has been overwhelming.
While we so appreciate and understand the frustration and dissatisfaction with the outcome of this situation, rest assured that we stand firm on the promise of Romans 8:28, "?all things work together for good to them that love God?" Peace comes with the faith of knowing that God has greater plans in store ahead for Doug.
Also, special thanks to Sam Wilkinson and Buddy Armour for standing up and speaking out against the improprieties that have occurred during this process.

Part Two-My Apologies
The Bible teaches us to humble ourselves before the Lord. I've spent the last several days searching my heart through prayer in an effort to do just that. Although I continue to stand in opposition to how the matter of naming a principal for Jimmy C. Draughn High School was handled, the manner in which I addressed this situation in my original letter was wrong.
I offer my apologies to Tim Buff, Tracy Norman, Rob Hairfield, David Barnard and Karen Sain for resorting to name-calling and insults as well as to the members of the East Burke High School staff and their families for insults implied.
I allowed hurt and anger, bitterness and the frustration of circumstance to get the best of me and must accept responsibility for that. I apologize.
To the young Miss Mecimore, who wrote in support of Mr. Rhoney, to the other young people in the Draughn High School community and to my church family, I ask that you also accept my apology.
As a role model I have failed you. Learn from my mistake for it has taught me one of life's toughest lessons.
I am so thankful that I serve a loving God who is faithful and just to forgive.
The only way to remove a board member from duties is through a recall election, a court action or by them not being re-elected. However, based on local law, anyone convicted of a felony cannot run for elected office

Controversy erupted at the Burke County Schools board meeting Monday night when Board Chairman Tim Buff presented a newly drafted map of school board district lines for approval. "Who authorized you to change the map?" Armour demanded.
Karen did not speak the entire meeting. She looked like someone in way over her head. It is clear now why Tim and Mistress Buff wanted her elected. Would it kill her to wash her hair? Buddy and Sam are the only two board members who can put two complete sentences together.

Hell, why shouldn't everyone resign? Should someone who tries to slip a new map under the table deserve to stay in office? What about her boss who admitted to authorizing it? According to the map published in the News Herald and accepted by the board unanimously, Grady is in the West. Tracy is in the West. If they are such good Christians, let one of them bow out and wish the other success.

The other four would pick their replacements for the remainder of their term no special election would take place. I truly believe that these three must resign to protect the integrity of the board of education. Then serious thought should be given as to whether to let David Burleson remain as Superintendent.

Yes, it would take the county commission to authorize an election outside of the normal cycle. A good thing to do would be to call Greer Suttlemeyre at the Board of Elections.Do not have the number but it is in the phone book. People tried to have the old board removed and was told to vote them out,this is what you will be told.It now takes the state to remove a board member and no special election takes place no matter hoe long the remainder of their term.It would be up to a majority of the other members to pick a replacement from that district.Do not take my word for it, but you will get no special election.It costs way to much money and the commissioners would be stupid to ever try it unless a valid legal reason is evident.Do your homework and let us know what you find out.
I can settle this concern here and now regarding the letter passed out at PRBC on Sunday, June 8. David Burleson is my Sunday school teacher and as a member of his class we support him 100%. Unfortunately, not everyone at our church supports David but I can assure you that every member of his class does. David is an example of what teachers all over only wish they could measure up to. My husband and I have been under his teaching for 10+ years and know what he stands for. He lives a Christian life and has devoted his career to the Burke County Public School system. As his wife said, the only person David has had an affair with is the school system and she can't do anything about that. With the exception of a very few board members, you can put the rest of them together and it would not equal the education and experience that Mr. Burleson has, and people what to get rid of him. Unbelievable! I truly think he was totally embarrassed at the way the June 9 board meeting was conducted. If this board thinks for one minute that they can get rid of him, they better think again. People of Burke County should only be thinking about what would happen to BCPS if he did resign. This day and time it's hard to find a Christian leader and one that has dedicated his life to his career and still has time for his family and friends. I cannot believe the savage ignorance of some of the people in positions of power and authority. I am a 16 year veteran of Burke County Schools, and while I'm sure that there are many with more years of experience and residence in Burke, I can speak from my experience that I have NEVER seen such an inept and unqualified duo of board members. I have a generous spirit and I give people the benefit of the doubt, but Tracy Norman IS an idiot! Why would someone who has had such little regard for the school system that they homeschooled their children (until she couldn't do it anymore once they got to high school) do anything but try to bring down the system once they were elected?
And how about Tim Buff's repeated ads in the News Herald supporting the private school here in Morganton? Why would the BCPS Board Chairman support through his business advertising dollars a PRIVATE SCHOOL where those that attend obviously have a problem with the FREE public education that is provided by BCPS? In all my years of teaching, I have seen many amazing students graduate and go off to accomplish great things in their careers, so what the HELL is wrong with BCPS that people like Tim and Tracy had such a problem with?
There has been nothing but anger, chaos and controversy since Tracy and Tim Buff got on the board. Come ON folks! Read the writing on the wall and lets do everything we can to get rid of these two morons!
The only thing that keeps me remotely interested in remaining a teacher in this system is that I have faith that there will be enough reasonable people who will go to the polls at the next election, (when Tim and Tracy are up for reelection) that those two freakin' morons will be ousted in a landslide.
And as for the bickering going on between various churches in Burke County related to the barbaric attempts to remove David Burleson, the only thing I have to say is, "...and Jesus wept." That's fine, upstanding Christian behavior there folks. Way to go. (And people wonder why their kids get turned off of religion. Folks, I'm here to tell you that your kids are waaaay smarter than you give them credit for and they watch and listen and can smell religious hypocricy a mile away.)

As for Hairfield? I'm not sure which is more of a dangerous example to our young people, a novel like the Kiterunner or a board member who has lost their license three times in the last 10 years because of DUI's. If he's your hero, what does that say about you?

This is in response to the bashing of Karen Sain. I personally believe that whoever is writing about her looks is just jealous. Cause I know GOOD and WELL that they aint half as pretty as her. She is the best lookin thing the board has to offer. When the board meetings get boring just look over at those beautiful eyes.. long flowing locks, pearly whites, ... the list could go on and on. I have never noticed a misplaced hair. So for someone to say something negative about it must have been gazing into a mirror.. if they even have hair. . First of all, yes, Tracy has once again gone and done something stupid. It is the much like the Energizer bunny ordeal...she just keeps going and going...doing dumb things everytime you turn around.
Second of all "ruining Bryan Grady..." Mr. Armour doesn't need to ruin him--Mr. Grady will eventually ruin himself when the truth is revealed.
Third, you want Tim Buff to do what job? He's done enough to corrupt the board. Openly admitting to orchestrating the map swithcheroo and then having his employee do the leg work. Nice...just who we all want to "do the job," someone that aids and organizes a fraudulent. Yes...(hopefully sensing the sarcasim in my writing)...that's EXACTLY who we want to do "their" job.
IN RESPONSE: If we had an attorney who was worth their salt, none of this would have taken place.The attorney should have been the one all along to work on the district maps.Sam Aycock had many chances over the course of a year before the new board was sworn in to complete this task and failed to do so.Rob thank goodness, took the bull by the horns and did an outstanding job on coming up with a solution.No one wanted to get involved until the last minute and now we have trouble on our hands.Who is to blame? Tim Buff took the blame and was willing to admit as chairman he had failed.Tracy should have not done what she did, and Buddy should have never accused anyone of something in the community whether he thought they were involved or not. Good fair and unbiased legal counsel could have prevented this a long time ago.Thank you Mr.Hairfield for trying to save the taxpayers some money in two forms.First for doing what should have already been done and that is coming up with district lines to avoid confusion again.Secondly, for getting rid of an attorney who would not do his job and wanted to play the system for all it was worth.

Can anyone help in placing petitions in as many as 10-15 locations in the county? We need someone to draft a petition requesting another school board election. The Vice has a history of questionable behavior. Now the president has admitted he knew that the Vice went to the Map office and had the map that had already been approved altered. We need these petitions placed in secure areas where the public will not be afraid to go. Small businesses, Doctor offices, Lawyer offices, restaurants, conveniences stores, maybe even have 2 or 3 people meet in Walmart's Parking Lot to allow people to sign as they go in and out. I think that the attorney general should be made aware of this map change.
I know this is an anonymous board. However we need to ban together to have a new election. Can we start by with a public meeting at some location? Does anyone have any ideas where and when we can all get together? It is obvious that both the president and vice are nervous. They have been working hard since Monday trying to keep people quiet. It is time for the public to know who is in charge of our school system. Everyone think about this and post some ideas. Our principals, teachers, teachers assistants, dietary staff, maintenance staff, bus drivers, and most of all OUR CHILDREN AND THEIR FUTURES depend on us.

I will give toward an advertising fund. This fund can be used to educate the people of Burke County about our current president and vice. Even small ads in newspapers on a daily basis will have people very interested. We can make pamplets to hand out. This can be done at a low cost. Let's get the information out and into the hands of our county and let the people decide. I think we can have a large turnout. Can we get volunteers to work during the election? We have spent a lot of money already because of the questionable things this board has done. Can someone research past special elections and find out exactly what we need to do next. Don't give up folks. We must work toward a honest board of education. Our children are watching. What better example can we give them than to work toward this goal.

Spend your money.Ask the board of elections what the last school board election cost.Include salaries of employees,overtime and etc.Then it still would have to be authorized by the County Commission.It will not happen.If board members are forced off which comes from the state board of education,then the local remaining majority will choose their replacements and the districts in which they reside.So that would leave us with Rob,Karen Dave,and Sam because if one of the other three go Im am sure all will go.So better prepare for 2009 if you want changes.

To help those who think a special election can be whipped up got to Nc General Statutes and enter search criteria as special elections.Or, you can put in GS_163-182.13 and it will tell you all you need to know.
§ 163 182.13A. Contested elections for Council of State offices. (a) Application of Procedures. – A contested election for any elective office established by Article III of the Constitution shall be determined by joint ballot of both houses of the General Assembly under Article VI, Section 5 of the Constitution in accordance with the provisions of this section. Except as provided by this section, the provisions of Article 3 of Chapter 120 shall apply to contested elections under this section and shall govern standing, notice of intent to contest, answers, service of process, evidence, the petition, procedures, grounds, and relief except as provided in this section. All filings shall be with the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives. (b) Notice of Intent. – Notice of the intent to contest the election under this section shall be filed with the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives as if it were a contested election for the House of Representatives as prescribed in Article 3 of Chapter 120. (c) Jurisdiction. – When a contest arises out of the general election, the General Assembly elected at the same time shall hear and decide it. Any other contest shall be heard by the General Assembly sitting at the time of the election. (d) Committee. – A contest filed under this section shall initially be heard before a select committee consisting of five Senators appointed by the President Pro Tempore and five Representatives appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Not more than three members of the Senate appointed by the President Pro Tempore shall be members of the same political party. (2) If the contest is as to the conduct or results of the election, the General Assembly shall determine which candidate received the highest number of votes. If it can determine which candidate received the highest number of votes, it shall declare that candidate to be elected. If it determines that two or more candidates shall be equal and highest in votes, the provisions of G.S. 147 4 shall apply. (g) Final Determination. – A copy of the final determination of the General Assembly under this section shall be filed with the Secretary of State and with the State Board of Elections. (h) Copies. – The Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives shall make copies of any filings and transmit them to the Principal Clerk for the Senate. (i) Applicability. – This section applies only to a general or special election and does not apply to the primary or any other part of the nominating process. (j) Judicial Proceedings Abated. – Notwithstanding any other provision of law, upon the initiation of a contest under this Article, any judicial proceedings involving either the contestant or the contestee encompassing the issues set forth in the notice of intent or an answer thereto concerning the election that is the subject of the contest shall abate. The clerk shall file a copy of the notice of intent and final determination with the court in any judicial proceeding pending prior to the filing of the notice of intent. (k) General Assembly Determination Not Reviewable. – The decision of the General Assembly in determining the contest of the election pursuant to this section may not be reviewed by the General Court of Justice. I realize that the good residents of Burke County, in their wisdom, elected Tracy Norman to serve on the Burke County Board of Education. But I take exception to Norman dictating to my grandchildren what they may read; that decision rests with parents.
I don't recall abdicating that responsibility to Ms. Norman or the school board.

I had occasion to speak to Burke County School Board member Tracy Norman on Monday afternoon. She told me that she was not a high school drop-out and did not obtain a GED. She said she had graduated from Freedom High School in 1986 and had a high school diploma from that institution. I take Ms. Norman at her word. Thus, I humbly apologize for my recent letter in which I stated the rumor that she was a high school drop-out who had earned a GED.
I should have researched this subject before mentioning it as an opinion in The News Herald.
Not sure if you really care about the truth, but I believe the News Herald also ran a correction after printing Corkran's original letter. It seems when they learned they printed a letter containing libelous statements, they quickly tried to back step to avoid a lawsuit. Then, Corkran followed with his apology letter.
Have you noticed that at least two members of the David Burleson Fan Club have gone off half-cocked by printing their venom in the newspaper, only to have to retract and apologize later?
Come on, people. This is the place to spew our venom, not the News Herald's opinion page! Let's not make the mistake of mixing them up again since the News Herald is actually read by normal people, not Buffoon Haters.

There is still no announcement naming Hodges basketball coach at DHS. There were many posts here that this would happen....no doubt about it. Obviously, this was wrong. Either there was a deal or there wasn't. All of that hot air for nothing.
I just have to say that I was so impressed with the behavior of all the wonderful folks at Monday's meeting who were there in support of DB and against the Buffoons.
They are truly role models for my children, and they make me proud to be from Burke County.
I agree with blogger 1:45. The HOLY BIBLE says "Judge not lest thou be judged." The Great Judge will judge righteously one day, however, humans are prone to error. I was stunned when Mr. Buff make the comment about the media committee....wanting to know the names and the "walks of life they come from"....unbelievable that he would make such a statement in an open board meeting and then get upset when someone points out that Tracy is an idiot.

Tracy is no idiot. She took it upon herself to get the new maps altered. Tim tried to rush the new maps through at the meeting. Buddy called her on it. She was not authorized to move the map lines to make sure she was living in her district this time.
If she had only stayed at home with her husband and three sons she would have been in the correct district.

Armour walked into The News Herald office to deliver his letter of resignation to Duke Conover. He had gotten caught doing some dirty campaigning.....he withdrew the letter.

"Who authorized you to change the map?" Armour demanded. "It's not the map that I was voting for on May 5."
According to several board members, the change in district lines from April 21 to May 5 was not fully disclosed or discussed during open session.
"I received a phone call from a man, who would not tell me his name, several days after we voted on the map," says board member Sam Wilkinson. "He was wondering if I knew that a board member had gone to the GIS office and made changes to the map the day of the vote. I told him no I was unaware of such a thing. He wouldn't tell me which board member, but told me the line had been changed to include the residence of an individual who could run for school board in the central district."
Wilkinson said he subsequently went to the GIS department and learned Norman had changed the April 21 map on the day of the May 5 vote.
Other board members say they, too, were unaware the April 21 map had been changed.
"I had no idea the map was different," says board member Karen Sain. "I was glad to vote the map through and get on to more serious issues concerning the welfare of our teachers and students. No one told me or pointed out that the maps had been changed. I saw the map was dated May 5, but I assumed that was for purposes of the vote."
What give Tracy the right to change the lines, and then not tell the board. Sounds like the same cover up with the video tapes!
Is Tim also having an affair with someone at the No News Hearld? It appears they are only reporting the bare minimum of Monday's meeting.
Karen Sain seemed to be under the infulence of something last night. When she would look at someone she would get this fake grin where she shows her teeth and then closes her mouth and begins to blink her eyes really fast for several seconds. She did not make a peep all night. I doubt she would have known the new Tracy Map from a map of South Carolina.
This group is so ignorant to the guidelines even on how to conduct a meeting.
Does the actions of Ms Tracy Buff changing the Tracy Map not sound like another reason to have her removed. How can the taxpayers of Burke County continue to let her cost us so much money over her living arrangements and now her unauthorized manipulation of the district lines. Don't forget about the expense of her CSI Icard Series last year. For someone who failed as a wife, mother, home school teacher, part-time teaching assistant, part-time personal trainer and anything else she has come in contact with. Is this someone you want representing Burke County?
Sounds to me like Ms. Norman got caught (once again) aiding a fellow cohort and doing the dirty work for Mr. Buff. I would think at some point this would be considered fraud in some form or fashion and should be handed over to lawyers. It also sounds to me like Mr. Grady needs to create a diversion with the request for emails because he has been caught in more ways than one with this situation and past situations.

Does anyone really not find it ironic that these "new lines," once did not but now coincidentally does, include the particular road of someone that we all know wants to run for the board again?

Karen Brittain Sain: As a nurse, she is entrusted with patients' lives. As a board member, she'll be entrusted with students' lives.
David Barnard: He is running on fixing the dropout rate and creating a strategic plan to achieve goals.
Tim Buff: The schools are doing a good job, but there is room for improvement. The board needs to work with the community and the principals and assistant principals.

I am asking all the English teachers to help me. Tracy used a word on Monday night that I have never heard used before. She said "I want something CONCRETELEY in writing. She also said that she wanted some questions.
Tim admitted to the Tracy Map Saga being his fault. I suppose this means that both Mr. Buff and Mistress Tracy should be removed. By illegally changing the maps after they were already voted on I feel that this is a case of subordination on both her and her bf's part.

The word on the street is that Ms. Dobson has appealed the FHS decision regarding The Kite Runner to the next level.
Now, a SYSTEM-WIDE advisory committee will review the book to determine its literary value and decide if the book should be made available to high school students.

The moral to this story is....
If a good book has controversial subject matter, do not make the parents aware of it before introducing it for the first time. Once it's become part of our coursework, it is virtually impossible for anyone to have it removed because we can call them book burning censors.
The once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to open a brand new high school in this county was once again pulled out from under one of Burke County's very own: Doug Rhoney.
Doug Rhoney is a life-long resident of Burke County. He's given all 18 years of his career in education to the people and children of this county.
He was a high school teacher for nine years, served as an assistant principal for two years at Table Rock Middle School, became the Principal at Ray Childers Elementary and served that community for five years before assuming the principalship at Heritage Middle School where he is currently in his third year of serving the Heritage community.
On Friday the special called meeting of the Burke County Board of Education turned out to be nothing more than an orchestrated puppet show starring Chairman Tim Buff as the puppet master, Vice-Chair Tracy Norman as his willing assistant and their supporting cast of puppets Karen Sain, Rob Hairfield and David Barnard.
In a 5-2 vote these demagogues voted not to accept the recommendation by the Superintendent for Doug Rhoney to be named Principal of Draughn High School.
This group of five, three of which have sat on the board all of two months, have the arrogance and audacity to claim to know who the best person for the principalship of Draughn High School should be more so than an interview committee comprised of parents, community representatives and central office staff; more so than the Superintendent who himself is a former North Carolina Principal of the Year and this year's Burke County Man of the Year; more so than the community that Draughn High School will serve and last but not least, more so than the two board members who reside in that community and were elected to represent the people of that community.
What an abuse of the power entrusted to them by the people of Burke County.
The mere thought that Doug Rhoney was passed over because he had no high school experience as an assistant principal or principal is absolutely ridiculous.
Any educator or individual with common sense will tell you there's no substitute for proven leadership.
Doug Rhoney is a proven leader. His track record speaks for itself. Perhaps Mr. Buff and Mrs. Norman have conveniently forgotten their vote of a little more than a year ago to approve Shanda McFarlin as the principal of Robert L. Patton High School who had absolutely no experience at the high school level whatsoever at the time of her appointment. (No offense intended to Mrs. McFarlin).
In the quest to remove David Burleson as superintendent these five have proven to the people they're willing to go to any lengths, ethical or not, to get their way.
Ultimately, they have sacrificed the best interests of the children in the Draughn community for their own selfish gain. What an injustice that's been dealt to the kids and to the community.
Speaking of community, according to Mrs. Norman, one person's voice does not represent the community. I would challenge her that neither do two disgruntled EBHS staff members, one of who's husband is a former EBHS assistant boys' basketball coach who is upset that her husband didn't get the head basketball position and the other her brother, along with their small na?ve band of conspirators. Won't it be interesting to see who's awarded the head boys' basketball position at Draughn now?
I hope the Fraudulent Five do not truly believe they've escaped accountability for their actions on this matter. They've denied two of Burke County's best the opportunity of a lifetime; they've sarcastically scoffed at the true Draughn community and its leadership; and they've placed personal agendas, vendettas and spitefulness ahead of student needs, excellent proven leadership and the future success of Draughn High School.
Whether they answer to the people or not, there's one to whom they will all answer and he knows the heart. "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." (Galatians 6:7)
I would like to thank the people of the Draughn community, the many students and the many BCPS teachers and staff for all of the phone calls, e-mails and apologies that Doug has received over the last few days. The outpouring of support for him as he walks through this valley has been overwhelming.
While we so appreciate and understand the frustration and dissatisfaction with the outcome of this situation, rest assured that we stand firm on the promise of Romans 8:28, "?all things work together for good to them that love God?" Peace comes with the faith of knowing that God has greater plans in store ahead for Doug.
Also, special thanks to Sam Wilkinson and Buddy Armour for standing up and speaking out against the improprieties that have occurred during this process.

Part Two-My Apologies
The Bible teaches us to humble ourselves before the Lord. I've spent the last several days searching my heart through prayer in an effort to do just that.
Although I continue to stand in opposition to how the matter of naming a principal for Jimmy C. Draughn High School was handled, the manner in which I addressed this situation in my original letter was wrong.
I offer my apologies to Tim Buff, Tracy Norman, Rob Hairfield, David Barnard and Karen Sain for resorting to name-calling and insults as well as to the members of the East Burke High School staff and their families for insults implied.
I allowed hurt and anger, bitterness and the frustration of circumstance to get the best of me and must accept responsibility for that. I apologize.
To the young Miss Mecimore, who wrote in support of Mr. Rhoney, to the other young people in the Draughn High School community and to my church family, I ask that you also accept my apology.
As a role model I have failed you. Learn from my mistake for it has taught me one of life's toughest lessons.
I am so thankful that I serve a loving God who is faithful and just to forgive.
The only way to remove a board member from duties is through a recall election, a court action or by them not being re-elected. However, based on local law, anyone convicted of a felony cannot run for elected office

Hell, why shouldn't everyone resign? Should someone who tries to slip a new map under the table deserve to stay in office? What about her boss who admitted to authorizing it? According to the map published in the News Herald and accepted by the board unanimously, Grady is in the West. Tracy is in the West. If they are such good Christians, let one of them bow out and wish the other success.

The other four would pick their replacements for the remainder of their term no special election would take place. I truly believe that these three must resign to protect the integrity of the board of education. Then serious thought should be given as to whether to let David Burleson remain as Superintendent.

Yes, it would take the county commission to authorize an election outside of the normal cycle. A good thing to do would be to call Greer Suttlemeyre at the Board of Elections.Do not have the number but it is in the phone book. People tried to have the old board removed and was told to vote them out,this is what you will be told.It now takes the state to remove a board member and no special election takes place no matter hoe long the remainder of their term.It would be up to a majority of the other members to pick a replacement from that district.Do not take my word for it, but you will get no special election.It costs way to much money and the commissioners would be stupid to ever try it unless a valid legal reason is evident.Do your homework and let us know what you find out.

I can settle this concern here and now regarding the letter passed out at PRBC on Sunday, June 8. David Burleson is my Sunday school teacher and as a member of his class we support him 100%. Unfortunately, not everyone at our church supports David but I can assure you that every member of his class does. David is an example of what teachers all over only wish they could measure up to. My husband and I have been under his teaching for 10+ years and know what he stands for. He lives a Christian life and has devoted his career to the Burke County Public School system. As his wife said, the only person David has had an affair with is the school system and she can't do anything about that. With the exception of a very few board members, you can put the rest of them together and it would not equal the education and experience that Mr. Burleson has, and people what to get rid of him. Unbelievable!
I truly think he was totally embarrassed at the way the June 9 board meeting was conducted. If this board thinks for one minute that they can get rid of him, they better think again. People of Burke County should only be thinking about what would happen to BCPS if he did resign. I cannot believe the savage ignorance of some of the people in positions of power and authority. I am a 16 year veteran of Burke County Schools, and while I'm sure that there are many with more years of experience and residence in Burke, I can speak from my experience that I have NEVER seen such an inept and unqualified duo of board members. I have a generous spirit and I give people the benefit of the doubt, but Tracy Norman IS an idiot! Why would someone who has had such little regard for the school system that they homeschooled their children (until she couldn't do it anymore once they got to high school) do anything but try to bring down the system once they were elected?
And how about Tim Buff's repeated ads in the News Herald supporting the private school here in Morganton? Why would the BCPS Board Chairman support through his business advertising dollars a PRIVATE SCHOOL where those that attend obviously have a problem with the FREE public education that is provided by BCPS? In all my years of teaching, I have seen many amazing students graduate and go off to accomplish great things in their careers, so what the HELL is wrong with BCPS that people like Tim and Tracy had such a problem with?
There has been nothing but anger, chaos and controversy since Tracy and Tim Buff got on the board. Come ON folks! Read the writing on the wall and lets do everything we can to get rid of these two morons!
The only thing that keeps me remotely interested in remaining a teacher in this system is that I have faith that there will be enough reasonable people who will go to the polls at the next election, (when Tim and Tracy are up for reelection) that those two freakin' morons will be ousted in a landslide.
And as for the bickering going on between various churches in Burke County related to the barbaric attempts to remove David Burleson, the only thing I have to say is, "...and Jesus wept." That's fine, upstanding Christian behavior there folks. Way to go. (And people wonder why their kids get turned off of religion. Folks, I'm here to tell you that your kids are waaaay smarter than you give them credit for and they watch and listen and can smell religious hypocricy a mile away.)
My fear is that there will be too much apathy at the next election. Remember, the only thing neccessary for evil to succeed is for good people to do nothing. Lets do everything we can to get these idiots out.

Second of all "ruining Bryan Grady..." Mr. Armour doesn't need to ruin him--Mr. Grady will eventually ruin himself when the truth is revealed.
Third, you want Tim Buff to do what job? He's done enough to corrupt the board. Openly admitting to orchestrating the map swithcheroo and then having his employee do the leg work. If we had an attorney who was worth their salt, none of this would have taken place.The attorney should have been the one all along to work on the district maps.Sam Aycock had many chances over the course of a year before the new board was sworn in to complete this task and failed to do so.Rob thank goodness, took the bull by the horns and did an outstanding job on coming up with a solution.No one wanted to get involved until the last minute and now we have trouble on our hands.Who is to blame? Tim Buff took the blame and was willing to admit as chairman he had failed.Tracy should have not done what she did, and Buddy should have never accused anyone of something in the community whether he thought they were involved or not. Can anyone help in placing petitions in as many as 10-15 locations in the county?
We need someone to draft a petition requesting another school board election. The Vice has a history of questionable behavior. Now the president has admitted he knew that the Vice went to the Map office and had the map that had already been approved altered.
We need these petitions placed in secure areas where the public will not be afraid to go. Small businesses, Doctor offices, Lawyer offices, restaurants, conveniences stores, maybe even have 2 or 3 people meet in Walmart's Parking Lot to allow people to sign as they go in and out.
I think that the attorney general should be made aware of this map change.
I know this is an anonymous board. However we need to ban together to have a new election.
Can we start by with a public meeting at some location? Does anyone have any ideas where and when we can all get together?
It is obvious that both the president and vice are nervous. They have been working hard since Monday trying to keep people quiet. It is time for the public to know who is in charge of our school system. Everyone think about this and post some ideas.

(h) Copies. – The Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives shall make copies of any filings and transmit them to the Principal Clerk for the Senate.
(i) Applicability. – This section applies only to a general or special election and does not apply to the primary or any other part of the nominating process.
(j) Judicial Proceedings Abated. – Notwithstanding any other provision of law, upon the initiation of a contest under this Article, any judicial proceedings involving either the contestant or the contestee encompassing the issues set forth in the notice of intent or an answer thereto concerning the election that is the subject of the contest shall abate. The clerk shall file a copy of the notice of intent and final determination with the court in any judicial proceeding pending prior to the filing of the notice of intent.
(k) General Assembly Determination Not Reviewable. – The decision of the General Assembly in determining the contest of the election pursuant to this section may not be reviewed by the General Court of Justice.
(l) Definition. – As used in this section, "contest" means a challenge to the apparent election for any elective office established by Article III of the Constitution or to request the decision of an undecided election to any elective office established by Article III of the Constitution, where the challenge or the request is filed in accordance with the timing and procedures of this section. (2005 3, s. 3(a).)

Those who are smart know the board can not have a meeting without going into open session.Most people were very respectful when the old board was in and did not yell out or make rude obnoxious comments from the floor.The chairman has the right to maintain order.Why did Ray tell the public that only a certain number of people could be in the meeting room the night they were talking about ousting Tracy/Having attended board meetings in the past and seen the room overflowing that was the only time that had ever been done.Cat calls are not allowed at public meetings.I hope many of Burleson,and Armour supporters continue to show how unclassy they truly are.

I realize that the good residents of Burke County, in their wisdom, elected Tracy Norman to serve on the Burke County Board of Education.
But I take exception to Norman dictating to my grandchildren what they may read; that decision rests with parents.
I don't recall abdicating that responsibility to Ms. Norman or the school board.

I had occasion to speak to Burke County School Board member Tracy Norman on Monday afternoon. She told me that she was not a high school drop-out and did not obtain a GED. She said she had graduated from Freedom High School in 1986 and had a high school diploma from that institution.
I take Ms. Norman at her word. Thus, I humbly apologize for my recent letter in which I stated the rumor that she was a high school drop-out who had earned a GED.
I should have researched this subject before mentioning it as an opinion in The News Herald.
Again, I apologize.

Not sure if you really care about the truth, but I believe the News Herald also ran a correction after printing Corkran's original letter. It seems when they learned they printed a letter containing libelous statements, they quickly tried to back step to avoid a lawsuit. Then, Corkran followed with his apology letter.
Have you noticed that at least two members of the David Burleson Fan Club have gone off half-cocked by printing their venom in the newspaper, only to have to retract and apologize later?
Come on, people. This is the place to spew our venom, not the News Herald's opinion page! Let's not make the mistake of mixing them up again since the News Herald is actually read by normal people, not Buffoon Haters.

I just have to say that I was so impressed with the behavior of all the wonderful folks at Monday's meeting who were there in support of DB and against the Buffoons.
They are truly role models for my children, and they make me proud to be from Burke County.
I agree with blogger 1:45. The HOLY BIBLE says "Judge not lest thou be judged." The Great Judge will judge righteously one day, however, humans are prone to error. Tim Buff and Tracy Norman have more moral fiber in their fingertips than many of the "Name Callers" who post on this blog have within their entire being.
