Confidentiality breach #1: Hairfeld talks about the bored, "confided to the superintendent that there were some problems at one of our middle schools that needed to be addressed as far as leadership positions there. This was the only time the board asked the superintendent to do something to correct the problem. This was back in June of this year."
Confidentiality Breach #2:"Burleson told the board he had some concerns with the principal at W.A. Young..."Under the State Employee's Personnel Act, anything that deals with an employee's performance, whether good or bad, is considered confidential and cannot be disclosed without permission from that employee.
Protected information includes performance, attendance, statistical information such as years employed/sick days used/ etc, disciplinary action, awards, anything that is part of or can be considered part of an employee's personnel record is protected.
If disclosure of information can directly identify an employee, or can be attributed to a specific employee (implied disclosure), then that employee can file a grievance with their local personnel director.
Implied disclosure of personnel records, direct disclosure of personnel records…these matter should be resolved tonight

I know that this board is not perfect after last night,in fact they all 7 should be ashamed that they have let Draughn not have a succesful start on the school year.Patton was started under the old regime so we will make a small allowance for that.Mr.Kenney and Mrs.Mcfarlin told the board last night that they are short in funding in athletics and budgeted fuel for athletic events.Problem is this current board has allowed the Administration David and Randall to be trusted to make sure things were going smoothly.You can not trust this administration and Rick Sherrill can not get here soon enough.All seven board members need to be more visible in all our schools and need to start asking questions about why things were not put in the budget for Draughns opening? Randall and David are trying to leave things in a mess before they go.They are upset about not having a puppet club.But, things rest on the board and it is high time that the board take off the gloves and start blacking some eyes over these new schools.

I am writing to voice my concern regarding Mr. David Burleson. He apparently was responding to several parent concernz regarding principal transfers. While he may have felt it necessary to make the moves regarding principal transfers, his decisions, are felt highly appropriate at this time. It would have sufficed to say that the decisions were made by the burke board of education in what they felt was in the best interest for our schools. It was neither necessary nor appropriate for anyone to point fingers and to give further details that denigrated specific principals and former school board members. A person in Mr. Burleson’s position of service to the Burke County Schools system and citizens should want Burke County Schools to maintain a positive image rather than the negative one he is attempting to paint.
David has painted a negative image himself.If this were not true, he would be courted if he were a great leader by other systems.Sadly he is not, and many in this town would help him pack if he needs to go else where. Who will handle Andy Brandon's case? Probably John Ervin,or Sam Aycock.Although I dont think Aycock could.

Well if you didnt notice... today at the convocation ... the staff and faculty of this county are behind david burleson NOT the BOE! You cant lie about that on here - ofcourse unless you were not there. over 2000 people were there and well .. They were all yelling and whistling in honor of david. and the board sat there. What a message the faculty and staff sent to the board.

I was told that Monday the board turned down an opportunity to give 11 and 12-month employees additional salary increases proportional to the number of months they actually work. Aren't these the people Buff and Hairfield claim to go to bat for all the time?
I'm told the money was additional county revenue that the administration wanted to share with these hourly employees, and Hairfield said, "No! This is not what the Legislature ordered!"
They didn't order him to double his skool bored salary, but he pulled strings with his commissioner friends and got it approved.

i called a former board member. Their mileage (gas) reimbursement check was $110.25 per month. That sum had been paid since before 1990. The chairman received about $25 extra dollars per month.
Now, according to an old audio, members receive $200 per month, but there was no mentin on the tape as to what the chairman now receives.
Why does anybody think Rick Sherrill is going to do any better job than David is doing, or not doing? This is the same board who wanted Sherrill in this position to start with.
Did you see the latest John Locke report grading NC school districts on being parent-friendly? This is an ultra-conservative group that many of the BCPS new majority follow.
Catawba County placed 13th with a grade of B. Burke County tied for 20th (out of 115) with an overall grade of C+.
Individual grades for Burke were: Administration: C+ Teachers: B Safety: C Student achievement(ADM 14,055): B-
Pamlico County tied for 96th with an overall grade of D+.
Individual grades for Pamlico were: Administration: D Teachers: C- Safety: F Student achievement(ADM 1,510): B
Burleson regarding the Principal Shuffle... "As you can imagine, we get feedback from many, many sources and it takes a lot of time to sort through what is legitimate and what is not." I guess we are to infer from that comment that certain feedback from parents about the principal is what's NOT legitimate.
Burleson did say that any teacher, or employee of the Burke County Public School system that logs on to 'BCPS Skool bored' during working hours will be subject to personnel action up to & possibly including dismissal.
Mrs. Norman was ONCE again in court. On Friday, 12/14/07 Mrs. Norman sat in the Burke County Criminal Courtroom with her son, who has numerous charges including a drug charge as well as a concealed weapon charge. The SADDEST part of this is that on this same day in court was the Business Law class from EBHS....our young students came to observe court and what they got to observe was their own school board member sitting in court...Shame on you Mrs. Norman...and to think...just recently you sat there with your own charges!!!! Don't you wish the News Herald would print this information for the good citizens of Burke COunty.
Ms. Norman did a good job telling a master teacher where to get off. She had to muster her entire four years at Freedom to construct that tallented comeback!

Andy Anderson had some affairs in caldwell county before he came here.I can name the women if you like.He was moved from many schools for that reason. Today's convocation was interesting.But there were many school employees who did not show.Over 5,000 people elected this board and not all were teachers.The biggest problem now facing this board is when will employees recieve raises from the board not the state? I am concerned that the board rejected a proposed raise to the employees, there had better be a damn good reason.The only reason would be to make sure everyone was paid as even as possible.This board has some problems, but has a long way to go before being as bad as the old regime.Good moves they have made are getting a new attorney,getting a new human resource director,hiring someone to fill joel hastings position,and hopefully filling scott smith's technology position.I will come to a meeting and raise hell with this board if raises are not delivered sometime in the near future.Randall needs to go!People can yell and cheer all they want to for Burleson,it is a matter of time before he is gone.For 20 years our teachers have for the most part been brainwashed into thinking the administration is always on their side.David needs to start doing what this board wants and he will probably have a chance at outlasting them.As for the community social clubs they only represent a small fraction of the public.David is not to popular in many homes.

For one, the parents of Burke County. Our good teachers are jumping ship to Catawba, McDowell, and other districts. I have heard many in Catawba county say this has been there easiest year recruiting teachers.

But if I were a newspaper reporter or an editor, I think I would care if a former school board member who just lost an election files a lawsuit in an attempt to declare that election invalid. I am writing to voice my concern regarding Mr. David Burleson. He apparently was responding to several parent concernz regarding principal transfers. While he may have felt it necessary to make the moves regarding principal transfers, his decisions, are felt highly appropriate at this time.
It would have sufficed to say that the decisions were made by the burke board of education in what they felt was in the best interest for our schools.
It was neither necessary nor appropriate for anyone to point fingers and to give further details that denigrated specific principals and former school board members. A person in Mr. Burleson’s position of service to the Burke County Schools system and citizens should want Burke County Schools to maintain a positive image rather than the negative one he is attempting to paint.

You cant lie about that on here - ofcourse unless you were not there. over 2000 people were there and well .. They were all yelling and whistling in honor of david. and the board sat there. What a message the faculty and staff sent to the board.

I was told that Monday the board turned down an opportunity to give 11 and 12-month employees additional salary increases proportional to the number of months they actually work. Aren't these the people Buff and Hairfield claim to go to bat for all the time?
I'm told the money was additional county revenue that the administration wanted to share with these hourly employees, and Hairfield said, "No! This is not what the Legislature ordered!"
They didn't order him to double his skool bored salary, but he pulled strings with his commissioner friends and got it approved.
The New Majority are really looking out for the "little man". Yeah right!

i called a former board member. Their mileage (gas) reimbursement check was $110.25 per month. That sum had been paid since before
1990. The chairman received about $25 extra dollars per month.
Now, according to an old audio, members receive $200 per month, but there was no mentin on the tape as to what the chairman now receives.
Why does anybody think Rick Sherrill is going to do any better job than David is doing, or not doing? This is the same board who wanted Sherrill in this position to start with.
Did you see the latest John Locke report grading NC school districts on being parent-friendly? This is an ultra-conservative group that many of the BCPS new majority follow.
Catawba County placed 13th with a grade of B. Burke County tied for 20th (out of 115) with an overall grade of C+.

Mrs. Norman was ONCE again in court. On Friday, 12/14/07 Mrs. Norman sat in the Burke County Criminal Courtroom with her son, who has numerous charges including a drug charge as well as a concealed weapon charge. The SADDEST part of this is that on this same day in court was the Business Law class from EBHS....our young students came to observe court and what they got to observe was their own school board member sitting in court...Shame on you Mrs. Norman...and to think...just recently you sat there with your own charges!!!! Don't you wish the News Herald would print this information for the good citizens of Burke COunty.
Ms. Norman did a good job telling a master teacher where to get off. She had to muster her entire four years at Freedom to construct that tallented comeback!
My next-favorite comment was from King Buff who told a certified and respected educator as she approached the podium (and I'm paraphrasing), "If your comments are only about board bashing, we'll not be hearing them." Talk about stepping on the First Amendment!

Andy Anderson had some affairs in caldwell county before he came here.I can name the women if you like.He was moved from many schools for that reason. Today's convocation was interesting.But there were many school employees who did not show.Over 5,000 people elected this board and not all were teachers.The biggest problem now facing this board is when will employees recieve raises from the board not the state? I am concerned that the board rejected a proposed raise to the employees, there had better be a damn good reason.The only reason would be to make sure everyone was paid as even as possible.This board has some problems, but has a long way to go before being as bad as the old regime.Good moves they have made are getting a new attorney,getting a new human resource director,hiring someone to fill joel hastings position,and hopefully filling scott smith's technology position.I will come to a meeting and raise hell with this board if raises are not delivered sometime in the near future.Randall needs to go!People can yell and cheer all they want to for Burleson,it is a matter of time before he is gone.For 20 years our teachers have for the most part been brainwashed into thinking the administration is always on their side.David needs to start doing what this board wants and he will probably have a chance at outlasting them.As for the community social clubs they only represent a small fraction of the public.David is not to popular in many homes.

For one, the parents of Burke County. Our good teachers are jumping ship to Catawba, McDowell, and other districts. I have heard many in Catawba county say this has been there easiest year recruiting teachers.

The population of the county will always out number the school employees. It was that way before the fraud 5 and it will be that way after the fraud five.
From the talk I hear, Tim and Tracy are losing support. They have given Burkemont Baptist a black eye and they are not happy. They are giving BCPS a black eye. People are noticing.
