Why did Rob Hairfield vote against DB?
I don't know. Why don't you call him? According to the Board of Education website...
"ANYONE, including school system personnel, may contact me via my phone at..."
I am not going to give the phone number. You can get it here.
Call and post his response
Congratulations
According to the front page of the burke county schools website, David Burelson was named Burke County's Man of the Year.
Congratulations!!!
Congratulations!!!
Need some help
Heather Sanders recently published an article about the pay of Central Office Administrators
School board member questions pay, days off
Are some central office staff entitled to both?
What struck me as odd is this quote from the article.
Board member Tracy Norman said she doesn’t believe these employees are receiving their full compensation.
Looking at Tracy's previous record, school board not criminal, where she voted not to renew contracts of many Central Office administrators, it is hard to beleive that she is now concerned that they didn't get the right pay/bonus days dating back to 2001.
Would someone who understands this situation leave a comment and I will turn it into a post?

My Last Laugh of Today
Thanks to William Bailey of Drexel for this gem.
Rename school

I thought I had said my last about the name of the new high school, but since we have a new school board committed to the kids rather than their own greed and under the table deals, I will make my final appeal.
Last Friday, I walked up to the gate where the new high school is being built and as I looked at the progress being done I could not help but notice the beautiful mountain view as you look down at the school.
Say what you may about the neighboring industries and wastewater treatment plant, this school is going to be in a beautiful location (the traffic issue will need to be dealt with soon however.)
The comment I made to myself is a school with this type of scenery needs a more appropriate name.
The football stadium would be a great place for the people to honor the memory of Jimmy Draughn, but the kids need to have a name that more fits a high school. I thought of Mountainview High at the moment, but my point is, is it reasonable to revisit the issue of the name of the high school by the new school board, or is this just something we are going to have to live with?
I still get fired up thinking of the political shenanigans the previous school board used to come up with the name. If enough people agree with me, maybe the new board will listen. If anyone shares my views, please let them be heard.

Quit Reading this and GET BACK TO WORK!
Please remember that the board was elected to serve the will of the people, but only if you agree with the board. If you disagree and make it known, you are told to go back and do your job. Listen
A Good Day in Court
I am hearing that the DA did his job and is getting a judge who is not a personal friend to hear Tracy Norman's son's charges. I hear there was a field trip there when this was going on? Anyone have anything more concrete.
And the New Draughn Principal is...
We don't know. Apparently, Tim, Tracy, Rob, and Karen didn't like David B's recommendation. More to come.

Irony of ceremony

Being that Rob Hairfield finally messed around and got himself elected, I figured we needed someone to speak up for the folks of Burke County.
Let's start out by conducting an informal poll. Would everyone who voted against building the two new schools raise your hand.
OK, now would everyone who voted for the new slate of school board members also raise your right hand.
I bet you raised your hand twice. Don't fib.
Does anyone think it's just a little bit humorous that the school board swearing-in ceremony for our new members was at Robert L. Patton High School
The new cast of board members, led by Tim Buff, seem to have developed amnesia from their cost cutting and need for a change platform.
His public support of David Burleson certainly caught his voting constituents off guard.
It now seems the normal swearing-in ceremony prior to a school board meeting isn't sufficient for the new cast of members.
How ironic the very first issue (building the new schools against the majority vote) that the voting public stated was reason for change is now hosting the swearing-in ceremony.
I certainly don't blame them for choosing such a beautiful venue for the party,
I just find it cynical.
