Irony of ceremony

Being that Rob Hairfield finally messed around and got himself elected, I figured we needed someone to speak up for the folks of Burke County.

Let's start out by conducting an informal poll. Would everyone who voted against building the two new schools raise your hand.

OK, now would everyone who voted for the new slate of school board members also raise your right hand.

I bet you raised your hand twice. Don't fib.

Does anyone think it's just a little bit humorous that the school board swearing-in ceremony for our new members was at Robert L. Patton High School

The new cast of board members, led by Tim Buff, seem to have developed amnesia from their cost cutting and need for a change platform.

His public support of David Burleson certainly caught his voting constituents off guard.

It now seems the normal swearing-in ceremony prior to a school board meeting isn't sufficient for the new cast of members.

How ironic the very first issue (building the new schools against the majority vote) that the voting public stated was reason for change is now hosting the swearing-in ceremony.

I certainly don't blame them for choosing such a beautiful venue for the party,

I just find it cynical.

Oh, yes. Hairfield was the champion of the dissenters saying that the school board refused to listen to the people. I think the school board HEARD the people say,"We need the schools, but we don't want our taxes raised. Find another way!"

The school board found another way by redirecting sales tax money. Hairfield still insisted in 2005 that we had plenty of room at FHS and EBHS, and that new schools were not needed.

Idiot.
