Birthplace: Des Moines, Iowa.
oh no, you are not a home grown boy, don't tell Tim
About him: David Barnard said his wife thinks he's crazy. So do most of his friends
No arguments from me
Those goals were sparked in part by a year, two years ago, spent teaching seventh-grade science in the Burke County schools. During that time, he said, he was "appalled" by the administration's approach to middle school education; it was more important, he said, for kids to have high self-esteem than to learn anything.
I love these type of people, do something for a year and they are experts. I have seen you mention your "extensive" education experience. In my education experience i learned that extensive doesn't mean one year. I have heard that year didn't go so good. If anyone knows anything more concrete, please leave a comment.
He said he's hoping to apply experience from his corporate career to the school system. "In business, you have to look at the problems you have within the company and decide whether to scrap or solve (them and) come up with new ideas," he said. "I feel that could be my role."
Big difference between business and education. Business is all about the bottom line. A lot of money is spent on kids with special needs who don't qualify for a diploma. You can't scrap them.
How do you plan on measuring profit?
he would encourage greater parental involvement in the schools and listen more to community members and teachers. Burke County has excellent teachers, he said, and they need more support dealing with disruptive students.
Solid answer, you will be held accountable.
He also advocates better money management and questions whether two new high schools were necessary. He favored building one large, new, centrally located high school and using other money to fix outdated educational facilities, including overcrowded elementary schools and outdated high school science labs.
That must be your business side... Student preform better in smaller settings, surpirsed you didn't learn that in you extensive education work.

Your bio doesn't say WHY he is no longer teaching. I wonder if some of the parents who dealt directly with him will share that. I tend to be wary of people who teach for a while, stop teaching, then run for school board. I am VERY wary if Buff recruits those sudden ex-teachers into his fold.
I heard he was escorted off the school grounds and "asked" not to come back!! Great school bored material.
If big Dave thinks that "learning things" includes vulgar language then his platform is right on. The middle school is right to be concerned about the students' self esteem if their teacher constantly yelled and cursed them. Take it from a parent who knows!
I hope David Burleson does not believe he can wait this board out.He is going to have to fire people if he hangs around. They will have a new attorney soon.
David Barnard stated "middle schools are the reason why Burke county has such a high dropout rate." 40% according to his statistics. How ignorant of an individual do we have on our skool bored?? Social issues-teen pregnancy, drug abuse, necessity to work to provide family income etc.- has nothing to do with the dropout rate because it is all the middle schools lack of preparing the students fault. Why did this guy get asked to leave Table Rock Middle School????
