Rob "DWI" Hairfield bio

About him: A longtime Burke County schools observer and candidate in three of the previous four board elections, Hairfield said he's running to restore credibility, integrity and accountability to the board.

I can't think of a better way to restore credibility and integrity than to elect someone with not one but two DWI charges. Read for yourself

As a school board member, what would be your top priority?
"A financial audit; replace the director of finance (associate superintendent Randall Brackett). Focus on education, not job creation. Promote effective discipline. Cut excess and waste."

I appreciate the bluntness, I really do. Do an audit and replace the associate superintendent. What happens if the audit doesn't prove your "job creation" and "excess" and "waste" conspiracy theory. Sounds like i was wrong about the bluntness, it is a personal vendetta. But as long you say its for the burke county children, you are in the clear right?

the rest of your bio is not bad, but don't think I am going to be easy on you. You have years of crazy letters to the editor. I can't wait.

I would like to ask these questions, for starters,

You have stated countless times that School Board members should be held accountable on the number of classes they complete in order to hold office. The new board will be inducted in office in December. Classes start at most colleges in January. I would like to know the classes (and other pertinent info like the # of hrs per class, the costs that will incur, who will be responsible for paying for these classes, what colleges these courses will be taken at, etc.,) that each member will be starting.

You've also stated in the past that one of the platform issues that would be addressed, if elected (and it was the first one on your list), was ‘pay raises for the lower hourly paid employees’. Since it was an issue important enough for you, as a candidate, to bring to our attention FIRST, I would appreciate this being the FIRST thing on your agenda – especially now that you have been elected. I agree with you that “broken promises and lip service” should not happen.

Hello Mr. Hairfield, you out there?

Great questions gives me inspiration for new posts. You will what each candidate said they would do and what they actually bring up.

you will also see the classes they are taking.

I need your help if you know something post a comment.

The "classes" are offered by the NC School Boards Association and other entities such as NW-RESA. The number of hours are really contact hours. The law requires 12 CONTACT hours per YEAR. The average cost is around $100 per hour. These courses are offered all over the state. If you go to places like Atlantic Beach or the Outer Banks as Ms. Norman has done for the past two summers, you, the taxpayer, also get to pay for their room and board in addition to their registration and mileage. Chairman Buff did not go to the Outer Banks this past summer. Too controversial.

While on the subject of required coursework and contact hours, the public should ask the Central Office for the information concerning the money spent by Ms. Norman and Mr. Buff on "training". EACH spent over $3000 of YOUR money this past year ('06-'07). I'm quite sure Mr. Buff spent close to $4000 in '05-'06. The other board members didn't come close to that. In fact, the budget line item for board training and stipend mileage had to be increased from $19,000 per year to $24,000 in '06-'07 just to cover their increased spending.

Yes, those two are well-trained - accumulating over 130 hours between them. But the law only requires TWELVE each.

All of this is public information and available for the asking. So when Mr. Buff says he's looking out for the taxpayer, he is. He's looking to spend their money on himself and on whomever else he takes with him.

I would take a drunk Hairfield over a liar, a thief, and a criminal anyday. At least he faced his problem. Alcoholism is a disease that every american family has dealt with at some time or another. You holier than thou dipshits like to preach out of one side of your mouth and condemn out of the other side. I love the idea that we have ordinary folks with common sense running the show for a while. You criminal rich will have to wait for the next election to buy a candidate.
