Truthiness

Truthiness is a satirical term that U.S. television comedian Stephen Colbert created in 2005 to describe things that a person claims to know intuitively or "from the gut" without regard to evidence, logic, intellectual examination, or facts.

How many times have I heard the newly elected school board members talk about refocusing on education and how bad our drop out rate its. Too much. Their fix, we need new administration.

Well they have said it so much that it has become truthiness. Tim Buff ran a great campaign and got relected on truthiness. It was so good it got Karen Brittain Sain elected too.

Today news herald there are two things that show the administrators are focused on education.

Drop out rate falls and a letter to the editor defending David B. I would give you the link, but that section of morganton.com is not showing up.

The "truthiness" of the matter is this: Burleson was/is this election's focus. Buff purchased a new board majority in order to neutralize Burleson's popularity and promote the Buff Agenda.

And that agenda clearly, by his own admission, is to "support the little man over the big man". That includes only hiring from the cradles of Burke County - whether they are qualified or not. That includes only promoting from within - whether there is a qualified person there or not. That includes ignoring the policy requirements to staff the system with diversity and quality and excellence. That includes using whomever and whatever means necessary to get what he wants. That includes him using his "connections" via his church (I am told he is a capo in what is known as the Burkemont Mafia) and the two political parties to portray himself as being - well..."truthy".

This "staffing via in-breeding" mentality is NOT child-centered nor is it in any way educationally-based. Sadly, this agenda shows Buff's fear of reaching outside his own comfort zone. Buff only surrounds himself with the familiar and with the "little man" - so that he can see himself as the Big Man.

Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely

Anybody wondering why everyone posting is labeling themselves as anonymous? Sadly, its quite simple... fear of revenge. If you, or anyone in your family, works for BCPS and you dare defame "them," you'll lose you job, be accused of something,be harassed by the zealots, or have falsities smeared through out the News Hearld until you or your family member has been "destroyed." So we can protest all we want, they have us by the balls and they plan to do absolutely everything they want. Burleson will be replaced, Brackett will be forced into retirement, Demter forced into retirement, and Smith will be harrassed until he quits. They did it to Anderson, and they'll do it again. Watch the Titanic sink; everyone head for the lifeboats.

If Buff is so interested in getting rid of Mr. Burleson, then why doesn't he have the guts to publically explain his faults with Mr. Burleson so people can have a chance to understand his viewpoint. The problem is, I don't think Buff can find anything bad to truthfully say about Mr. Burleson.

It is a sad time in our county for those who truly understand what this board is doing. The problem is that so many people in our county just don't understand. They can't "see" what the true motives are of the board. I don't know what it will take for the community to see what is really going on. I also don't know too many men as good, kind hearted and capable as Albert Huffman. I'm still shocked and amazed that Tim Buff was supported more by the people of this county than someone who gave his entire professional career to the education of many many students in this county. It's an absolute digrace.

Albert Huffman pissed this election away when he threw Susan Wilson Polpeters name around on the radio and the forum along with Mr.Burleson's. The biggest damage was done when he had his picture beside of Martinat's. He looked like a company man and talked that way. Tim killed him on the radio and even huffman supporters called me to tell me albert sounded bad the way he came off on radio. Albert should run again and distance himself from the company but i doubt he could. He is a fine man no question!

I think albert is dedicted to the right causes, but it is true he played to much to the system and it hurt him. I supported James Pearson,Albert Huffman, and James Stamey. I think this board will have its problems but have a long way to go before totally hitting the wall.
