I am sure this really damages Mr. Barnard's stats!!! I wonder how Mr. "Know-it-all" is going to say that the state stats are incorrect. Maybe he will do another presentation at the school board meeting on dropout since the first presentation was so interesting!!

Barnard might as well have called Burleson a liar when he talked about the county stats. I've seen the type of work Burleson and other Administrators have done to keep these kids in school. They provide important GED and Adult High School diploma information seminars and schedule interventions to keep kids from dropping out of school. They do a good job. The problem is some parents in this county LET their children drop out of school. That would never have been an option for me or for my kids. It is a direct reflection of how some parents don't value education in our county. I would think that's probably a reason so many flock to Buff and Norman. Some people dislike those who are educated and hold advanced degrees. How can someone with a high school diploma and another with a GED even have the nerve to tell us who is the right candidate for a principal's position? Makes no sense to me. Helen Brown said he prayed about it in a recent editorial. Since Buff seems to have no common sense or anything above a high school education, I would imagine prayer is the only option he had in making the decision. Well, if you subtract the possibility that he hates all of those who didn't support his campaign.

There's a difference in how the drop out rate and the graduatioin cohort rate (which I believe was what Mr. Barnard was trying to speak to) are calculated. Those two stats represesnt two entirely different things. Mr. Barnard needs to educate himself about such before making statements in board meetings that reflect poorly on the county.

Hold on now!! Mr. Barnard IS well-educated! He has two - count them - TWO bachelors degrees! He has managed a $60 million dollar company! He seems to be an expert on EVERYTHING!

Then he went into education - albeit briefly. Very briefly. I wish we could look at HIS personnel file to see what kind of educator he was. After listening to his "civics lesson" on the audio, my guess is he sucked as a teacher.

I understand that there is ONE thing he's good at. If you attend the Friday night tastings at the Catawba Valley Brewery uptown, he'll give you a chugging lesson!

Does the News Herald no longer verify the identity of those who submit Letters to the Editor? I am in a local rest home frequently seeing to a family member and have first hand knowledge about Helen Brown, the author of the "Valdese Clique" letter published 2/7/08. She is the grandmother of the brother-in-law of our School Board Chairman, Tim Buff. She is not in a condition that would have allowed her to have penned this letter. Isn't it sad that some who support our School Board Chairman, Tim Buff feel they must resort to hidden identities or to say it another way, identity theft?

Buddy Armour is heavily medicated and attends counseling sessions. Is he in a position to serve the schools if he stays doped up?

Buddy Armour medicated? Are you touched? Mr. Armour is one of the most insightful, well spoken, and upstanding members of the current school board.

To say that he's heavily medicated is short-sighted, and reckless. You are an idiot.

Dave on the other hand...what a tool. He'll tell you one thing to your face, and then turn right back around and stab you in the back. It's a miracle he hasn't gotten a DUI from his drinking exhibitions that I have seen at Abbie Normal's, Yianni's, the Brewing Company, or Ham's. I think that's pretty well all the bars in downtown...Yikes. Good role model for his two children.

Do not accuse individuals of being heavily medicated when you know nothing about them

Anyone would have to be highly medicated to serve on the same board as the Fraduleny Five.

Frauduleny? What is that? Go cook some more meth/smoke another rock you brain-dead tart. Christ, if you're going to talk trash, get your spelling right.

Who cares about spelling. The point was made and you took it!

This goes out to all you so called leaders/citizens of burke county. If all you people actually gave two shits about these kids, you would put more effort towards helping them rather than spitting dumbass remarks towards each other on this stupid blog. STOP pissing up a rope and work together and get this school system back where it needs to be. I can honestly say all you people need to grow up!!

According to Mr./Mrs. Anonymous who said "How can someone with a high school diploma and another with a GED even have the nerve to tell us who is the right candidate for a principal's position?", only someone with an advanced degree can pick principals? Give me a break. One of the richest men in america never received his college degree. That would be Bill Gates.

Just because you have a college degree does not mean you make good decisions, or write sensible posts.

So, based on your statement, the only people qualified to choose a principle must have an advanced degree?
