WOW! Lots of Letters!

There are a ton of letters on Morganton.com speaking up against Tracy Norman. If I get around to it, I will write a little about each letter.

Molding Minds

Best Teachers

Personal Agenda

Don't Censor

Don't Hold Us Back

Excellent Book

What Books are Next?

Parent's Call

Also, I noticed an aritcle in the Charlotte Observer this weekend. Book to Raw For School. We are getting some exposure.

I know David Barnard doesn't like the book because San Fran newspaper likes it. I believe he called them wacko. It turns on Catwaba County is wacko too, and maybe Caldwell. "Catawba County Schools approved "The Kite Runner" last year, said spokeswoman Carleen Crawford, and it is being taught to at least one advanced English class. Caldwell County is considering adding the book to its curriculum next year, said spokeswoman Libby Brown. "

Thanks to all those folks who wrote to the newspapers!

Has anyone forwarded Mr. Barnard's comments to the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce? I'm sure they will appreciate being called the "wacko center of the universe".

Also, I understand that Mr. Hosseini has a good team of lawyers at his disposal as well as his publisher. How might they react to having The Kite Runner publicly labeled pornography and filth? How might they feel about having their work banned by our school system?

I just received confirmation that NCTE has sent a letter to the school board concerning banning the book.

Mrs. Norman got a nasty letter from the National Censorship. She is going to have to back down. FINALLY someone with balls to smack her down. Maybe she could figure the letter out with her g.e.d.

Hey 2/28/08 7:03pm,
Got a great idea for you... why not print this junk about Tracy's high school education in a letter to the editor like Corkran did - and sign your name to it. Or is it just more fun to slander someone anonymously? Talk about someone needing some balls.

To 2/29/08 @2:00 PM
So she has a high school diploma - the minimum education required to home school a child. It takes more training than being a former TA, a past employee at CURVES, and a grocery store worker to know how to run a school system.

I sense that you possess a deep admiration for her many career successes as well as great sympathy for her many trials - none of which you feel she deserved. Perhaps you contributed to her legal defense fund. Since the mean old previous school board voted to reimburse her, maybe she will give you your money back. That is unless she spent it on her own traffic woes or her #2 son's plentious charges.

Apparently the citizens of Burke elected her, her boss, and her host of friends because they represent the best this county has to offer. This, I am certain you believe.

9:15AM,

You are certain you know what a blogger believes based on their comment asking a blogger to go public with their libel.

You MUST be the great Gerry McCambridge, the totally amazing mind-reader of our day. Why, oh why, did you not sign your real name, Gerry?

When are you appearing at Hooters to amaze us with your mind-reading skills? Please post it here so we can be sure to see you in person.

You are simply fabulous. Please advise as us where to find your fan club's website.

I guess you missed the naming of the AD for Draughn and the naming of the new principal at EBMS. Both of these positions highlight the mind reading skills of bloggers on these pages. These positions were named a month ago by some great psychic bloggers. Stay tuned.

8:51am - Are you great psychic mind-reading bloggers, or simply insiders, giving a heads up on confidentail personnel issues after speaking with Demiter? Or, maybe you are Demiter.

What a great blog! You can blab all you want about personnel decisions without consequence, and then make people believe you're Gerry the Great.

It's great to be in Burke County. I'm on the edge of my seat

So, 8:51, what's your argument?

Actually, the only people to be formally accused of leaking confidential information reside on the school board at this point.

As for the right to "blab", you seem to be doing so quite nicely as an anonymous blogger. It's actually the only point you made. Isn't blogging just a wonderful way to exercise YOUR RIGHT to free speech without consequence?

As for being on the edge of your seat...stay tuned...

There is no law against sharing closed-session activity so long as employee names, student names, and student information is not included in the sharing.

The one board member who was castigated for "leaking information" was only so charged because a recording device was allegedly involved, and recording a person's voice or image without their knowledge and replaying it to a third party is illegal.

David Lawrence, of the NC Institute of Government, has said repeatedly that a closed session gives the governing body the right to exclude the public. A closed-session meeting does not give the governing body the right to infringe on a board member's first-amendment rights to discuss what went on in closed session.
