Thank Goodness!!! A community meeting!! This seems like a great opportunity to stand together for our students and support our school. As a parent I would like to encourage ALL Draughn parents to come out and show your concern/support for our school.

I am a student at EBHS and will be attending Draughn. A teacher passed out flyers about this during class. My question is if it is not a school function why are the teachers wasting time passing this out? Most of my friends just threw them in the trash.

My family will definitely be at this meeting and I hope those parents and students that are as frustrated as me will come out to show your support - lets stand together for Draughn High School and our children!

Yes...pitchforks and torches everyone. Let's teach the children that just because our cause(status quo) was out voted by a huge majority, we shouldn't just let the community heal. Let's teach the children that it is ok(even necessary) to make fun of the occupation of our elected officials, or anyone for that matter. Let's teach the children that we should take great pleasure when other people's children disappoint them publicly. After all, our children would never do that. Let's teach them that when people get into trouble, it is ok if their dad and their father in law help investigate. The sooner they learn that adults aren't always held accountable for bad decisions the better. This should be an easy sale. Lastly, let's teach the kids that nothing is more important than getting your way. It may be necessary to hide behind innuendo and scorch the earth under you. Whatever we do...let's teach them that the end always justifies the means. Light the torches!

Gee, I'm glad our forefathers did not think as you do and just stand by and watch. Our country is built on the foundation of active involvement in our government process and speaking out against elected leaders is one thing that sets us apart from a dictatorship. So let's teach the children that elected leaders should be held accountable and sitting back waiting "to heal" will not bring about change.

Active involvement in the gov process does not mean slandering the people that won.

It is not slander when the information is true.

Actually, lampooning the "powers that be", is a truly American pastime.

Don't believe me? Try reading some of Mark Twain's works (as quoted on several intro parts of this blog). Some of the material by Twain (and others since the founding of this country) is downright hilarious and provides a sometimes personally scathing look at some of history's most notable figures.

While I certainly don't agree with some of the language and rhetoric used in some of the postings here, it would be absolutely hypocritical to pass summary judgement on those posting such commentary. Rarely does such comment come without some form of root cause.

After all, as a wise man once said, "Opinions are like people's backsides. Everybody's got one, and everybody else's stinks but our own." Nobody ever guaranteed free speech was pretty, but it's one of the best ways known to mankind for keeping government in check.

Keep up the great commentary.

Actually, when it's put in print, it's libel...:)

Again, not if it is true.

libel is a word mrs norman usually continually. could this be her ???

Last post definitely from a Burke County graduate... lol

A Burke County graduate educated by many of you in here blogging.... I would imagine under the watch of Mr. Burleson and a previous board. Thanks for the wonderful education!

You're welcome...and while you're at it, please don't neglect to mention how BCPS managed to measurably improve its overall performance during the tenure of Mr. Burleson et al. After all, we shouldn't confuse the issue with facts.

Norman needs to go to wpcc and take some classes in grammar and probably ethics.

That's a very good point. So which facts do you mean and measured against what standard? State or National. So are you a supporter of NCLB or just bonuses? So who is to get the credit for this improvement? The students, teachers, administrators, David Burleson, School board, or NCLB?

Inquiring minds want to know....
